[Termes IGN] production cartographiqueRésumé : (auteur) Further attention should be paid to contextualizing the spaces and practices of amateur map-making. Doing so will provide further insight into the ways that maps, mapping epistemologies, and mapper identities emerge in the practices of everyday life. In order to deconstruct the map, and ultimately the power of maps, it is necessary to investigate maps from the bottom up as well as the top down. The motivations of amateur cartographers, the contexts in which map-making takes place, and the technological processes involved are all important factors to consider when examining how and why maps are produced. Empirical ethnographic evidence from a study of OpenStreetMap and humanitarian “mapping parties” is presented here to demonstrate how the often overlooked cultures of amateur map-making offer novel perspectives on who contemporary map-makers are and what motivates them to map. It is shown that amateur map-making is a broad category that includes close-knit hobby communities and more diverse groups of enthusiastic volunteers. As cartography continues to open up and become more accessible through a range of digital mapping technologies, studying these shifts will be important for understanding how and why the role of the map in contemporary life is changing. [Termes IGN] véhicule automobileRésumé : (Auteur) Real-time unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)-based thermal infrared images processing, due to high spatial resolution and knowledge of the various infrared radiant energy level distribution of solid bodies, has important applications such as monitoring and control of the various phenomena in different natural situations. One of these applications is monitoring the ground vehicles in cities by using detection or semantic segmentation of them in the thermal images. In this research, our purpose is to improve the performance of deep learning combined model by using Gaussian-Bernoulli Restricted Boltzmann Machine (GB-RBM) specifications for the segmentation of the ground vehicles from UAV-based thermal infrared imagery. The proposed model is studied in three steps. First, designing the proposed model by using an encoder-decoder structure and addition of extracted features from convolutional layers and restricted Boltzmann machine in the network. Second, the implementation of the research goals on four sets of UAV-based thermal infrared imagery named NPU_CS_UAV_IR_DATA that was collected from some streets of China by using FLIR TAU2 thermal infrared sensor in 2017. Finally, analyzing the performance of the proposed model by using five state-of-the-art models in semantic segmentation. The results evaluated the performance of the proposed model as a robust model with the average precision and average processing time of approximately 0.97, and 19.73 s for all datasets, respectively. The GGM derived geoid undulation values are compared with the geometrical undulation values obtained from GNSS/levelling data on Indian vertical datum. A correction term is added to the computed GGM derived geoid undulation value after fitting three-, four-, five- and seven-parameter models to account for bias and tilt between local geometric Indian vertical datum and global gravimetric vertical datum. The results indicate that EGM2008 model is the best GGM available for India with root-mean-square error (RMSE) of 0.28 m, without model fitting. However, after considering the systematic errors in the two datums with seven-parameter model, GECO GGM has shown significantly better results with RMSE of 0.19 m for India. [Termes IGN] surface cultivéeRésumé : (Auteur) Earth Observation (EO) provides a unique means of obtaining information on land use/cover and of its changes, which is of key importance in many scientific and practical applications. EO data is already widely used, for example, in environmental practices or decision-making related to food availability and security. As such, it is imperative to examine the suitability of different EO datasets, including their synergies, in respect to their ability to create products and tools for such practices and to guide effectively such decisions. This work aims at exploring the added value of the synergistic use of optical and radar data (from the Landsat TM and Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar (ASAR) sensors respectively). Such information can help towards improving the accuracy of land cover classifications from EO datasets. As a case study, the region of Wales in the UK has been used. Two classifications—one based on optical data alone and another one developed from the synergy of optical and RADAR datasets acquired nearly, concurrently were developed for the studied region. Evaluation of the derived land/use cover maps was performed on the basis of the confusion matrix using validation points derived from a Phase 1 habitat map of Wales. The results showed 15% increase in overall accuracy (84% from 69%) and kappa coefficient (0.81 from 0.65) using the synergistic approach over the scenario where only optical data were used in the classification. In addition, McNemar’s test was used to assess the statistical significance of the obtained results. Results of this test provided further confirmed that the use of optical data synergistically with the radar data provides more accurate land use/cover maps in comparison with the use of optical data alone.
