[Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (éditeur) In May 12, 2008, the Wenchuan County earthquake caused devastating loss of human life and property. Applying all the remote sensing technology available, the Chinese Academy of Sciences immediately launched into action, making full use of its state-of-the-art facilities, remote sensing planes, and satellites to amass invaluable optical and radar data. This unprecedented use of comprehensive remote sensing techniques provided accurate, up to the minute information for disaster management and has left us with a visually stunning and beautiful record that is as much a scientific achievement as it is an artistic one. Based on the accumulated data and images collected by the Project Team of Remote Sensing Monitoring and Assessment of the Wenchuan Earthquake, Atlas of Remote Sensing of the Wenchuan Earthquake documents the events as they happened in real time. The book covers the disaster from six aspects: geological, barrier lakes, collapsed buildings, damaged roads, destroyed farmland and forests, and demolished infrastructure. It also demonstrates that the Dujiangyan Irrigation Project, which has been standing for 2000 years, remains fully functioning, and keeps the Chengdu Plain operating optimally even after the earthquake. Translated into English for the first time, the Atlas presents a pictorial summation of this unique project. It chronicles the event with over 280 before and after color images from a range of perspectives. This volume dramatically demonstrates the value of remote sensing for understanding how an earthquake unfolds and the potential of remote sensing in helping coordinate emergency relief. A pictorial record of events as they unfolded, this book provides a systematic documentation of earthquake damage that can be used to prepare for future seismic events. [Vedettes matières IGN] Inventaire forestierRésumé : (auteur) Introduction: National forest inventories are designed to produce statistics about forest attributes at a national to regional scales. Beyond these administrative units, the amount of points become limiting in terms of precision. In France, the establishment of regional programs for forest and wood (PRFB) require estimates at a smaller scale. The multisource inventory approaches allowed to bridge this gap (Tomppo et al. 2008). The methods rely on the combination of field plot information with auxiliary data (Kangas et al. 2018). The objective was to set up a multisource inventory workflow for the French Forest and to evaluate the gain in precision obtain at different administrative levels. Materials and methods: This research was conducted over a 7500 km2 area located in centre of France, of which 50 % is covered by forests dominated by broadleaved species. The forest area included 775 NFI plots collected during the 2009-2014 period. The auxiliary data were acquired in 2013-2014 and selected to fulfil the following criteria: Relevant, i.e. well correlated with the forest attributed under survey; Actualized Regularly for updating; Exhaustive over the whole territory; and Economical (RARE2). In this regard, we used the following data sources: Landsat images, 3D models derived from aerial photographs and a forest thematic map. We further evaluated the contribution of 3D models acquired 5 years apart in a subset area. The multisource approach relies on the non-parametric k-nearest neighbours (k-nn) approach owing to its multivariate capabilities. The k-nn was optimised for variable selection, number of neighbours (k) and distance metrics. Its performance was tested under a model-assisted framework using estimators from Mandallaz (2013) for various administrative levels. Results: Among the auxiliary variables tested, the 3D data source from aerial photographs performed best, as compared to Landsat, or forest thematic maps. The best combination of data included all sources and provide relative efficiencies (RE) varying from 2.05 for volume to 1.03 for stand density. Over the subset area, the diachronic data allow to improve the RE from 3-26 %. The diachronic data markedly improved the efficiency in estimations of forest type volumes, basal area and stand density. Similar RE were obtained for small area estimation at the scale of Canton and Municipalities. Conclusion: Our results confirmed the importance of 3D models of forest canopies and demonstrated the interest of canopy changes to improve precision of some forest attributes such as production volume and density, which are associated with fluxes. [Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (auteur) Assessing the impact of events on the evolution of online public discourse is challenging due to the lack of data prior to the event and appropriate methodologies for capturing the progression of tenor of public discourse, both in terms of their tone and topic. In this article, we introduce a geovisual analytics framework, CarSenToGram, which integrates topic modeling and sentiment analysis with cartograms to identify the changing dynamics of public discourse on a particular topic across space and time. The main novelty of CarSenToGram is coupling comprehensible spatiotemporal overviews of the overall distribution, topical and sentiment patterns with increasing levels of information supported by zoom and filter, and details-on-demand interactions. To demonstrate the utility of CarSenToGram, in this article, we analyze tweets related to immigration the month before and after the 27 January 2017 travel ban in order to reveal insights into one of the defining moments of President Trump’s first year in office. Not only do we find that the travel ban influenced online public discourse and sentiment on immigration, but it also highlighted important partisan divisions within the US. [Termes IGN] surveillance de la végétationRésumé : (auteur) Permanent Grasslands (PG) are heterogeneous environments with high spatial and temporal dynamics, subject to increasing environmental challenges. This study aims to identify requirements, key constraining factors and solutions for robust and complete detection of Mowing Events. Remote sensing is a powerful tool to monitor and investigate Near-Real-Time and seasonally PG cover. Here, pros and cons of Sentinel-2 (S2) and Sentinel-1 (S1) time series exploitation for Mowing Events (MowEve) detection are analysed. A deep-based approach is proposed to obtain consistent and homogeneous biophysical parameter times series for MowEve detection. Recurrent Neural Networks are proposed as regression strategy allowing the synergistic integration of optical and Synthetic Aperture Radar data to reconstruct dense NDVI times series. Experimental results corroborates the interest of deriving consistent and homogeneous series of biophysical parameters for subsequent MowEve detection. [Vedettes matières IGN] Economie forestièreIndex. décimale : THESE Thèses et HDR Résumé : (auteur) Contexte.
Conclusion.
