[Termes IGN] rizièreRésumé : (auteur) We proposed a modification of the existing approach for mapping active paddy rice fields in monsoon-dominated areas. In the existing PPPM approach, LSWI higher than EVI at the transplantation stage enables the identification of rice fields. However, it fails to recognize the fields submerged later due to monsoon floods. In the proposed approach (IPPPM), the submerged fields, at the maximum greenness time, were excluded for better estimation. Sentinel–2A/2B time-series images were used for the year 2018 to map paddy rice over the Lower Gangetic Plain (LGP) using Google earth engine (GEE). The overall accuracy (OA) obtained from IPPPM was 85%. Further comparison with the statistical data reveals the IPPPM underestimates (slope (β1) = 0.77) the total reported paddy rice area, though R2 remains close to 0.9. The findings provide a basis for near real-time mapping of active paddy rice areas for addressing the issues of production and food security. Constructing a high-quality spectral-spatial feature and feature combination has been a worthwhile topic for improving classification accuracy. In this context, this study constructed a spectral-spatial feature, namely the Pixel Neighbourhood Similarity (PNS) index. Meanwhile, the PNS index and 19 spectral, textural and terrain features were involved in the Correlation-based Feature Selection (CFS) algorithm for feature selection to generate a feature combination (PNS-CFS). To explore how PNS and PNS-CFS improve the classification accuracy of land types. The results show that: (1) The PNS index exhibited clear boundaries between different land types. The performance quality of PNS was relatively highest compared to other spectral-spatial features, namely the Vector Similarity (VS) index, the Change Vector Intensity (CVI) index and the Correlation (COR) index. (2) The Overall Accuracy (OA) of the PNS-CFS was 94.66% and 93.59% in study areas 1 and 2, respectively. These were 7.48% and 6.02% higher than the original image data (ORI) and 7.27% and 2.39% higher than the single-dimensional feature combination (SIN-CFS). Compared to the feature combinations of VS, CVI, and COR indices (VS-CFS, CVI-COM, COR-COM), PNS-CFS had the relatively highest performance and classification accuracy. The study demonstrated that the PNS index and PNS-CFS have a high potential for image classification. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (auteur) Airborne light detection and ranging (LiDAR) is a popular technology in remote sensing that can significantly improve the efficiency of digital elevation model (DEM) construction. However, it is challenging to identify the real terrain features in complex areas using LiDAR data. To solve this problem, this work proposes a multi-information fusion method based on PointNet++ to improve the accuracy of DEM construction. The RGB data and normalized coordinate information of the point cloud was added to increase the number of channels on the input side of the PointNet++ neural network, which can improve the accuracy of the classification during feature extraction. Low and high density point clouds obtained from the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) and the United States Geological Survey (USGS) were used to test this proposed method. The results suggest that the proposed method improves the Kappa coefficient by 8.81% compared to PointNet++. The type I error was reduced by 2.13%, the type II error was reduced by 8.29%, and the total error was reduced by 2.52% compared to the conventional algorithm. Therefore, it is possible to conclude that the proposed method can obtain DEMs with higher accuracy. [Termes IGN] santé des forêtsRésumé : (auteur) Spatially explicit information on the distribution of dominant tree species groups and aboveground biomass (AGB) in forested areas is essential for developing targeted forest management and biodiversity conservation measures, as well as assessing forest carbon sequestration capacity. There is a shortage of continuously updated 30-m spatial resolution products for mapping dominant tree species groups. The vast majority of remote sensing-based AGB estimation approaches have relatively low accuracy for dominant tree species groups or forest types and are unsuitable for AGB modeling. Therefore, this study aims to develop an integrated framework that considers the phenological characteristics of different tree species to improve the mapping accuracies of forest dominant tree groups and corresponding AGB estimates. Thirty-meter resolution maps of dominant tree species groups were created using machine learning algorithms and phenological parameters. Features extracted from optical and radar images and phenological characteristics were used to construct AGB estimation models in a temporally consistent manner to improve the AGB estimation accuracy and perform dynamic AGB monitoring. The proposed method accurately characterized the dynamic distribution of the dominant tree species groups in the study area. The traditional AGB model that does not consider different forest types or species had an R2 value of 0.52, whereas the proposed model that considers phenology and forest types had an R2 value of 0.67. This result indicates that incorporating information on phenology and dominant species improves the accuracy of AGB estimations. The AGB in most regions was 30–55 t/ha, showing that the majority of the forests were young or middle-aged stands, and the areal percentage of AGB greater than 30 t/ha increased during the study period, suggesting an improvement in forest quality. Furthermore, the oak AGB was the highest, indicating that oak afforestation should be encouraged to enhance the carbon sequestration capacity of future forest ecosystems. The results provide new insights for researchers and managers to understand the trends of forest development and forest health, as well as technical information and a database for formulating more rational forest management strategies. [Termes IGN] système de numérisation mobileRésumé : (auteur) The study aims to find a low-cost alternate technology to get imagery, using mobile platform, and produce digital orthophoto for corridor mapping, with a higher degree of accuracy and which can reduce the lag time of acquisition of data. The present study uses digital single-lens reflex cameras, mounted on a mobile vehicle, and acquisition of data in the video format rather than still photographs, as traditionally used in mobile mapping systems. The videos are used to create a set of images and orthophotos. A widespread ground control points were recorded in the study area, using the global navigation satellite system receiver, which measured the control points in real-time kinematic mode. Generation of digital orthophoto has been completed using the captured mobile imagery and ground control point. Furthermore, procurement of satellite imagery and aerial triangulation using ground control points have been done. While comparing the planimetric accuracy of orthophoto against satellite imagery using the ground control points, the achieved root mean square error value of produced orthophoto is 0.171 m in X axis and 0.205 m in Y axis. However, for Cartosat -1 satellite imagery, the RMSE value for X is 1.22 m and for Y is 1.98 m. This research proposes the alternate low-cost mobile mapping method to capture the imagery for orthophoto production. The cost of orthophoto production from mobile image was found 77% cheaper than the orthophoto cost from fresh/latest satellite imagery procurement, while the overall production was 70% cost-effective than the orthophoto maps made from archived imagery.
