[Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) Precise localization in dense urban areas is a challenging task for both mobile mapping and driver assistance systems. This paper proposes a strategy to use road markings as localization landmarks for vision based systems. First step consists in reconstructing a map of road marks. A mobile mapping system equipped with precise georeferencing devices is applied to scan the scene in 3D and to generate an ortho-image of the road surface. A RJMCMC sampler that is coupled with a simulated annealing method is applied to detect occurrences of road marking templates instanced from an extensible database of road mark patterns. The detected objects are reconstructed in 3D using the height information obtained from 3D points. A calibrated camera and a low cost GPS receiver are embedded on a vehicle and used as localization devices. Local bundle adjustment (LBA) is applied to estimate the trajectory of the vehicle. In order to reduce the drift of the trajectory, images are matched with the reconstructed road marks frequently. The matching is initialized by the initial poses that are estimated by LBA and optimized by a MCMC algorithm. The matching provides ground control points that are integrated in the LBA in order to refine the pose parameters. The method is evaluated on a set of images acquired in a real urban area and is compared with a precise ground-truth. [Termes IGN] surveillanceRésumé : (éditeur) A country's local spatial development can be derived from socio-economic indicators assigned to administrative units. Proper management and monitoring often require statistics at a more detailed level. However, it is difficult if not impossible to sub-aggregate the statistics to smaller areas than administrative units. A reliable alternative is to measure the intensity and extent of night-time illumination and the changes over time. The authors have developed two indicators derived from satellite night-time images for monitoring local spatial developments in the Czech Republic. [Termes IGN] simulation numériqueRésumé : (auteur) Understanding trends in forest canopy cover at local, national, and global scales is important for many applications, including policymaking related to forest carbon sequestration. Globally consistent land-cover data sets derived from MODerate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) are now available for a period of more than 10 years, long enough to detect trends both in deforestation and in afforestation. However, methods of modelling land-cover change normally require specialized software and expertise, limiting the availability of this information. This barrier to access can be eliminated through the use of web services that construct models on demand based on user-specified regions of interest, so that parameters are inferred from, and relevant to, local conditions. In this paper we present a proof-of-concept system for building and running spatial Markov chain models of forest-cover change on demand, and demonstrate how the on-demand approach may be implemented for similar applications. can be embedded in the mathematical framework of multifractal analysis, enabling the study of the fluctuations in regularity of image intensity and providing practical tools for their assessment, the wavelet coefficients or wavelet leaders. Although successfully applied in various contexts, multifractal analysis suffers at present from two major limitations. First, the accurate estimation of multifractal parameters for image texture remains a challenge, notably for small image sizes. Second, multifractal analysis has so far been limited to the analysis of a single image, while the data available in applications are increasingly multivariate. The main goal of this thesis is to develop practical contributions to overcome these limitations. The first limitation is tackled by introducing a generic statistical model for the logarithm of wavelet leaders, parametrized by multifractal parameters of interest. This statistical model enables us to counterbalance the variability induced by small sample sizes and to
embed the estimation in a Bayesian framework. This yields robust and accurate estimation procedures, effective both for small and large images. The multifractal analysis of multivariate images is then addressed by generalizing this Bayesian framework to hierarchical models able to account for the assumption that multifractal properties evolve smoothly in the dataset. This is achieved via the design of suitable priors relating the dynamical properties of the multifractal parameters of the different components composing the dataset. Different priors are investigated and compared in this thesis by means of numerical simulations conducted on synthetic multivariate multifractal images. This work is further completed by the investigation of the potential benefits of multifractal analysis and the proposed Bayesian methodology for remote sensing via the example of hyperspectral imaging.Note de contenu : Introduction
