[Termes IGN] simplification de surfaceRésumé : (auteur) The simplification of three-dimensional (3D) building models to improve rendering efficiency has gained widespread attention. To maintain the model's overall appearance features while increasing the simplification rate, we propose a novel 3D building simplification method that considers both the model mesh and building structure. The method divides a 3D building into a primary structure and subsidiary structures. It then organizes these structures using StructureTree, a multi-way tree. The structures are organized according to the dependency relationships between building structures. When simplifying a building, the decision whether to simplify the mesh or remove the subsidiary structure in the leaf node of the StructureTree depends on the volume change caused by the edge collapse and the visual saliency of the removed structure. The experimental results show that our method exhibits a better simplification effect than the traditional simplification method, and the proposed method can achieve a high simplification rate while maintaining the simplification quality. Furthermore, the results of some spatial analyses based on the highly simplified building model are consistent with those of the original model. [Termes IGN] toponymeRésumé : (auteur) Toponym recognition is used to extract toponyms from natural language texts, which is a fundamental task of ubiquitous geographic information applications. Existing toponym recognition methods with state-of-the-art performance mainly leverage supervised learning (i.e., deep-learning-based approaches) with parameters learned from massive, labeled datasets that must be annotated manually. This is a great inconvenience when model training needs to fit different domain texts, especially those of social media messaging. To address this issue, this article proposes a weakly supervised Chinese toponym recognition (ChineseTR) architecture that leverages a training dataset creator that generates training datasets automatically based on word collections and associated word frequencies from various texts and an extension recognizer that employs a basic bidirectional recurrent neural network based on particular features designed for toponym recognition. The results show that the proposed ChineseTR achieves a 0.76 F1 score in a corpus with a 0.718 out-of-vocabulary rate and a 0.903 in-vocabulary rate. All comparative experiments demonstrate that ChineseTR is an effective and scalable architecture that recognizes toponyms. [Termes IGN] trajet (mobilité)Résumé : (auteur) With the development of cities, the indoor structures of contemporary public or commercial buildings are becoming increasingly complex. Accordingly, the need for indoor navigation has arisen. Among the indoor positioning technologies, quick response (QR) code, a low-cost, easily deployable, flexible, and efficient approach, has been used for indoor positioning and navigation purposes. A navigation network (model) is a precondition for pedestrian navigation path planning. However, no thorough research has been completed to investigate the relationship between navigation networks and locations of QR codes, which may cause ambiguities when deciding the closest node from the network that should be used for path computation. Specifically, QR codes are generally placed according to preferences or certain specifications whereas current agreed navigation network derivation approaches do not consider that. This article presents a navigation network derivation approach to address the issue by integrating QR code locations as nodes in navigation networks. The present approach is demonstrated in a shopping mall case. The results show that the approach can overcome the above-mentioned issue for indoor pedestrian path planning based on the QR code localization. [Termes IGN] Time-geographyRésumé : (auteur) The past couple of decades have witnessed tremendous growth of location-based social media activities (LBSMA) data in virtual spaces, including virtual geographic environments. Such data become innovative resources for the analysis of human activities. Meanwhile, a shift of human interactions from geographical spaces to virtual spaces has been observed. Although this is an exciting research opportunity, it also imposes significant challenges on GIScience, as current GIS representation models are no longer sufficient to handle the increased sophistication of human activities data. This research formalizes an ontology for LBSMA data and a conceptual framework for representing such data in GIS. The framework contributes to GIScience as it enables interconnections of human activities in both the physical and virtual worlds to be represented, organized, retrieved, analyzed, and visualized. The proposed GIS representation model integrates a social dimension into the existing spatial–temporal representation models and allows data analysis in the spatial–temporal–social (STS) dimensions. The research tested this conceptual framework with a prototype and a case study using Facebook data. The prototype and the case study prove that the proposed framework can significantly enhance GIS capabilities for data organization, retrieval, and analysis of LBSMA data in STS dimensions.
