This investigation is focussed on the southern Baltic Sea, especially the tide gauges Wismar and Warnemiinde in the German federal state Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The measurements at these locations were started in the middle of the last century. During that time the type of measurement devices, the measurement rate and the height reference of the tide gauges changed several times. Therefore, corrections were necessary in order to create homogenous tide gauge records. Special emphasize is put on the control of the long term stability of the tide gauges. Additional geodetic measurements are of prime importance for this purpose.
The analysis of the tide gauge records were done as well in time as in frequency domain. Investigations concer-ning the linear trend shows that the trend determined from observations of the last 20 - 30 years is about twice of the trend for the whole time interval of about 140 years. One possible reason for this phenomenon are sea level changes with a period of about 25 - 30 years, which can be identified in the whole record. Therefore, the risen sea level of the last 20 - 30 years is not necessarily an evidence for the human impact on sea level changes.
Long term changes in tide gauge records may be caused by secular sea level changes and by vertical crustal mo-vements. In order to separate both effects satellite geodetic methods, especially by using the Global Positioning System (GPS), play an increasing role for the height control of the tide gauge benchmarks. Recent activities in the Baltic Sea are mentioned. Special emphasize is put on the estimation of the accuracy of the measurements.
Satellite altimetry has reached an accuracy which enables the estimation of secular sea level changes. The measurements of 8 tide gauges were used in order to verify measurements of the TOPEX/POSEIDON mission. The interpolation of the sea surface topography between the tide gauge location and the altimeter measurement points was realized by hydrokinematic levelling. The comparison of both methods shows an agreement of about ±3cm.Numéro de notice : 28007 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : POSITIONNEMENT Nature : Thèse étrangère Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=63354 Exemplaires(2)
