[Termes IGN] SoudanRésumé : (Auteur) The integration of IKONOS satellite data, airborne color infrared remote sensing, visualization, and decision support tools is discussed, within the contexts of management techniques for minimizing nonpoint source pollution in inland waterways, such as riparian buffer restoration, and of strategies for food crop production sustainability, in an array of ecosystems. Case studies include the Little Miami River Watershed, Ohio; the Barataria Basin and Bayou Sauvage, Louisiana; and Sudan's Gezira. The investigation's objectives are to ascertain the utility of environmental decision support, informed by archival satellite data visualization and alternative future scenarios generation, and to explore site-specific sensitivity of such technologies, in support of inter-generationally prudent management of watersheds and sustainable regional food security. Follow-on collaborative research with European counterparts (e.g. Foundation for Research & TechnologyHellas (FORTH), Crete, Greece) is planned to include enhancement, hardening, environmental technology verification, and field deployment of the prototype Temporal Analysis, Reconnaissance and Decision Integration System (TARDIS).
