For this project, a simulation model was developed which enables the design of future urban areas and transportation networks, simulation of future displacement behaviour and traffic evaluation on criteria of sustainability. The simulation model consists of several linked computer modules, one of which is a custom -made GIS- design module, developed by AGV Traffic & Transport Consultancy Group. This GIS design toll makes it possible for experts in the field of urban and transport planning, to create spatial designs which can easily be compared and evaluated. The use of the design module has shown to bring substantial added value to the design process, making it more interactive, comparable, transparent and speedy. Even though there are some points for improvement, there is continuous interest into further development of the product.
