[Termes IGN] satellite agileRésumé : (Auteur) The Pleiades System, of which the first platform of the constellation shall be ready for launch in early 2009, is the new generation of high resolution optical sensor satellites developed by CNES, the French space agency. With its ability to provide photogrammetrists with instantaneous colour image stereo-pairs of 20km swath and 70cm resolution acquired with B/H ratios ranging from 0.15 to 2, the very agile and precisely pointing Pleiades platforms should open in many countries a new era for the updating of high scale maps, by probably avoiding heavy aerial survey campaigns in many cases. In the framework of a cooperation agreement between CNES and IGN-France (IGN-F), designed to prepare an operational use of these images, several experimentations and simulations are being carried out, in order to verify the ability of the System to fulfill the technical and operational requirements of the map-making processes, in comparison with those presently based on digital aerial photography. Among others, present studies particularly focus on :
the geometric and radiometric quality assessment of the planned System products (sensor level, orthoimages and mosaics).
the capacity assessment of the Pleiades constellation to meet the IGN-F cartographic mission needs in terms of image volume for the coverage of the national territory, whether in monoscopic or stereoscopic mode.
the potential of stereo- and three-fold stereoscopic image simulations for the extraction of buildings in 3D, after adapting algorithms primarily dedicated to higher resolution aerial images.
After an overview of the main characteristics of the Pleiades System, the paper aims at presenting the first results of these studies, which will be of great importance, together with the economic side, in the decision process of IGN-F to transfer, or not, part of the supplying of fresh images from the aerial source to the satellite source.

[Termes IGN] signalisation routièreRésumé : (auteur) A method for accurate 3D reconstruction of road features from multiple calibrated aerial images of urban areas is proposed in this paper. We here focus on road-marks and in particular on zebra-crossings and discontinuous road-marks separating circulation lanes. The approaches used here are generic and based on a-priori external knowledge and thus constrain the extraction of image features. As we will explain, two strategies are adopted depending on the object size. For zebra-crossings, we first build 3D segments representing stripes’ borders by 2D segments matching. For discontinuous lanes, we build a graph describing the network in each image and then match nodes in order to obtain 3D position of stripes’ centers. This provides in both cases an initial solution in 3D space. Using geometric and radiometric modeling to obtain a set of plausible models, e then look for an optimal solution. The last step yields us to choose the best one in adequacy with images data. A correlation based energy and template matching strategy achieve this in a hierarchical frame. The algorithm is finally evaluated with ground control points surveyed with a millimetric precision. [Termes IGN] système de numérisation mobileRésumé : (auteur) Zebra-crossings are very specific road features that are less generalized when imaged at different scales. We aim to use zebra-crossings as control objects for georeferencing the images provided by a Mobile Mapping System (MMS) using the oriented aerial images of the same area. In this paper, we present a full automatic method for 3D zebra-crossing reconstruction from our MMS calibrated stereo rig. In our image-based georeferencing context, reconstruction accuracy is a priority. The only assumption made is that each zebra-crossing band is supposed to be planar and to have an a priori known 3D width. The method consists in reconstructing the 3D edges using a sub-pixel edge matching process by dynamic programming. The detection step is run on all 3D edges around the estimated road plane by looking for parallel segment lines with specific distances. The accurate 3D plane of each band is then estimated from the points belonging to the two previously detected sides. The short sides of each band are detected on the image and are projected onto the 3D plane of the band. Our method is robust and provides promising results. We have a good geometric accuracy. [Termes IGN] zone urbaine denseRésumé : (auteur) In this paper, we tackle the problem of automatic building reconstruction using digital elevation model and cadastral data. We aim at massive production of 3D urban models and present thus an algorithm, that is an adaptation of a more general and semi-automatic strategy to an operational context where robustness is essential. We present two approaches relying on two different techniques for non-vertical planes extraction using constraints inferred by cadastral limits. The first one consists in inferring planar primitives by estimating only two parameters for each building: the height of gutter and the slope of roofs. The other idea is to extract planar primitives directly from the cadastral limits and from the DEM, using a robust RANSAC estimation algorithm. The results of an evaluation carried out on 620 buildings on a dense urban centre are promising and enables to compare both approaches.
