[Termes IGN] projection cylindriqueRésumé : (auteur) In books and textbooks on map projections, cylindrical, conic and azimuthal projections are usually considered separately. It is sometimes mentioned that cylindrical and azimuthal projections can be interpreted as limiting cases of conic, but this is rarely proven. The goal of this article is to show in a rigorous and systematic way how to generally approach solving the problem of transition from a conic to a corresponding cylindrical projection. This article points to the fact that J. H. Lambert showed as early as 1772 that a conformal cylindrical projection is created from a conformal conic projection. Following his idea, this paper shows that not only conformal, but also equal-area and equidistant cylindrical projections can be derived from corresponding conic map projections. Although it seems that the paper deals with quite well known and intuitive property of conic projections, it will also show that the transition from the conic to the corresponding cylindrical projection is not always possible. [Vedettes matières IGN] CartologieRésumé : (auteur) Cartography has undergone great changes in the last 40 years. Many web platforms and location-based services are offering increasing opportunities, paper maps have been largely supplemented by multimedia and digital maps, and spatial databases. The definition of a map has changed throughout history and the differences in their definitions are presented. This paper aims for new central cartographic definitions, corresponding to contemporary cartographic development after presenting the current situation of the topic. Definitions of cartographic mapping, cartography and cartographer are proposed, as well as a new definition of the map. All they are made on the base of logical analyses including different types of maps from traditional and real to virtual, 3D, animation, and digital. [Termes IGN] régression linéaireRésumé : (Auteur) Stjepan Glavač (1627-1680) produced a map of Croatia dated 1673, on which two meridians appear twice, 40°/51° and 41°/52°. The only written source regarding Glavač’s map is the dedication, which forms an integral part of the map. It does not say which prime meridians Glavač relied on, so in our research we attempted to establish what those prime meridians might have been. We approached the problem of the double longitudes using linear regression, through which we wanted to examine the relation of Glavač’s longitudes to modern values. An essential part of the research was a comparison of Glavač’s map with maps by his predecessors and contemporaries which show approximately the same prime meridians. The maps analysed, with their written values for the longitudes of certain places, indicated that the selection of prime meridians at that time was not entirely reliable. A further problem seemed to be the knowledge of the position of islands chosen as points of departure for longitudes. We concluded that the points of departure for Glavač’s dual longitudes were Palma, one of the Canary Islands, and the islands of Corvo and Flores in the Azores. [Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (auteur) A brief overview is given of the quality control of a 1:25,000 scale topographic map, carried out by the Croatian Geodetic Institute (CGI). As the topic of the aesthetics of the topographic map has, in the authors’ opinion, not been extensively covered, the paper concentrates on this topic. The paper focuses on devising an aesthetic standard relating mainly to the representation of relief. In fact, aesthetics can be controlled indirectly in terms of relief and water course alignment, the smoothness of contour lines, the non-existence of bonded contour lines and rock representation justification. A comparison between quality control at the CGI and quality elements according to contemporary standards was carried out. The presence of data-quality elements was registered in accordance with the ISO guidelines. A proposal for several data-quality measures for aesthetics related to relief representation is also given.
