[Termes IGN] tenseurRésumé : (auteur) Climate change is increasing the risk of glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) in many of the world’s most vulnerable and high mountain regions. Simultaneously, remote sensing technologies now facilitate continuous monitoring of glacial lake evolution around the globe, although accurate and reliable automated glacial lake mapping from satellite data remains challenging. In this study, a Second-order Attention Network (SoAN) is devised for the automated segmentation of lakes from satellite imagery. In particular, a novel Second-order Attention Module (SoAM) is proposed to capture the long-range spatial dependencies and establish channel attention derived from the covariance representations of local features. Furthermore, as the dimensions of the input and output tensors are identical and it simply relies on matrix calculations, the proposed SoAM can be embedded into different positions of a given architecture while maintaining similar reference speed. The designed network is implemented on Landsat-8 imagery and outputs are compared against representative deep learning models, demonstrating improved results with a Dice of 81.02% and a F2 Score of 85.17%. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (Auteur) This paper proposes a Gaussian mixture model of a ground filtering method based on hierarchical curvature constraints. Firstly, the thin plate spline function is iteratively applied to interpolate the reference surface. Secondly, gradually changing grid size and curvature threshold are used to construct hierarchical constraints. Finally, an adaptive height difference classifier based on the Gaussian mixture model is proposed. Using the latent variables obtained by the expectation-maximization algorithm, the posterior probability of each point is computed. As a result, ground and objects can be marked separately according to the calculated possibility. 15 data samples provided by the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing are used to verify the proposed method, which is also compared with eight classical filtering algorithms. Experimental results demonstrate that the average total errors and average Cohen's kappa coefficient of the proposed method are 6.91% and 80.9%, respectively. In general, it has better performance in areas with terrain discontinuities and bridges. [Termes IGN] segmentation d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) This article proposes a new building extraction method from high-resolution remote sensing images, based on GrabCut, which can automatically select foreground and background samples under the constraints of building elevation contour lines. First the image is rotated according to the direction of pixel displacement calculated by the rational function Model. Second, the Canny operator, combined with morphology and the Hough transform, is used to extract the building's elevation contour lines. Third, seed points and interesting points of the building are selected under the constraint of the contour line and the geodesic distance. Then foreground and background samples are obtained according to these points. Fourth, GrabCut and geometric features are used to carry out image segmentation and extract buildings. Finally, WorldView satellite images are used to verify the proposed method. Experimental results show that the average accuracy can reach 86.34%, which is 15.12% higher than other building extraction methods. [Termes IGN] web mappingRésumé : (Auteur) Despite being of paramount importance to humanity, tangible cultural heritage is often at risk from natural and anthropogenic threats worldwide. As a result, heritage discovery and conservation remain a huge challenge for both developed and developing countries, with heritage sites often inadequately cared for, be it due to a lack of resources, nonrecognition of the value by local people or authorities, human conflict, or some other reason. This paper presents an online geo-crowdsourcing system, termed Share Our Cultural Heritage (SOCH), which can be utilized for large-scale heritage documentation and sharing. Supported by web and mobile GIS, cultural heritage data such as textual stories, locations, and images can be acquired via portable devices. These data are georeferenced and presented to the public via web-mapping. Using photogrammetric modelling, acquired images are used to reconstruct heritage structures or artefacts into 3D digital models, which are then visualized on the SOCH web interface to enable public interaction. This end-to-end system incubates an online virtual community to encourage public engagement, raise awareness, and stimulate cultural heritage ownership. It also provides valuable resources for cultural heritage exploitation, management, education, and monitoring over time. [Termes IGN] Yunnan (Chine)Résumé : (auteur) Studies on volunteered geographic information (VGI) have focused on examining its validity to reveal geographic phenomena in relatively recent periods. Empirical evaluation of the validity of VGI to reveal geographic phenomena in historical periods (e.g., decades ago) is lacking, although such evaluation is desirable for assessing the possibility of broadening the temporal scope of VGI applications. This article presents an evaluation of the validity of VGI to reveal historical geographic phenomena through a citizen data‐based habitat suitability mapping case study. Citizen data (i.e., sightings) of the black‐and‐white snub‐nosed monkey (Rhinopithecus bieti) were elicited from local residents through three‐dimensional (3D) geovisualization interviews in Yunnan, China. The validity of the elicited sightings to reveal the historical R. bieti distribution was evaluated through habitat suitability mapping using the citizen data in historical periods. The results of controlled experiments demonstrated that suitability maps predicted using the historical citizen data had a consistent spatial pattern (correlation above 0.60) that reflects the R. bieti distribution (Boyce index around 0.90) in areas free of significant environmental change across historical periods. This in turn suggests that citizen data have validity for mapping historical geographic phenomena. It provides supporting empirical evidence for potentially broadening the temporal scope of VGI applications.
