[Termes IGN] métrologieRésumé : (auteur) Accurate gravity measurements were made to support the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) watt balance (WB) project in association with the eighth International Comparison of Absolute Gravimeters (ICAG-2009) and the accompanying Relative Gravity Campaign (RGC-2009) at the BIPM in 2009. The goal of WB project is to determine the Planck constant h for the realization of a new definition of the kilogram. The accurate value of free fall acceleration g is crucial for the precise determination of h. During the formal ICAG-2009 and the RGC-2009, four absolute and six relative gravimeters took part in the WB gravity campaign. The results can therefore be converted to the international reference of the ICAG results, i.e., they are SI-traceable. The WB gravity network is a regular 3D grid over the site in the WB laboratory that serves to evaluate gravity acceleration at the test mass centre of the future WB setup. The local Earth tide parameters were determined by analyzing a 6 months record of a gPhone spring-type gravimeter. These parameters, together with the atmospheric and polar motion corrections, enable precise prediction of the instantaneous values of the acceleration of free fall required by the WB experiment with an accuracy reaching 5 μGal. In addition, repeated precise levelling has been carried out to monitor the stability of the WB pillar. [Termes IGN] gravimètre absoluRésumé : (auteur) High precision levelling is an indispensable method used to monitor benchmark and terrain stability at the Bureau International des Poids et Mesures (BIPM). Associated with the International Comparison of Absolute Gravimeters (ICAG), levelling measurements were carried out repeatedly over the past decades. A local gravity field strongly depends on vertical terrain deformation. 1 cm displacement implies about 2 µGal change in the vertical gravity acceleration. The precision of absolute and relative gravimetry nowadays is about 1 µGal.
At the beginning of the century, a strategy was outlined that the ICAG should be upgraded to a metrological Key Comparison of the CIPM MRA (Mutual Recognition Arrangement) recognized officially by the designated governmental organizations. As a result of this decision, BIPM site B was constructed and completed in Spring 2001. The site B pillar is 4 m × 6 m × 1.5 m in dimension and more than 80 ton in weight. Such a large, newly built concrete body produces local deformation due to its sinking or tilting. This in turn influences the local gravity field. Rigorous levelling measurements have been performed by the Bureau de Recherches Géologiques et Minières (BRGM), France, since 2001 and repeated together with the 4-year ICAGs of 2001, 2005 and 2009. ICAG-2009 was characterized by becoming the first Comité International des Poids et Mesures (CIPM) Key Comparison which supported meanwhile the BIPM watt balance (WB) project. The WB pillar was built in Spring 2009. The Institut Géographique National (IGN), France, has hence been invited to participate in the levelling. The latter also measured the link between the BIPM local network and external stations of the French national height reference system IGN69.
In this paper, we report the final results of the levelling programmes of 2001, 2005 and 2009 and compare the results. We investigate stability of the BIPM gravity-levelling stations. We conclude that the existing and the newly built stations can be considered as stable for the purposes of the ICAGs and the WB, although further repeat measurement may be required for the WB site.
For the first time, detailed and complete levelling data and results are published*. After 30 years of organizing and holding eight ICAGs, the BIPM will hand over the KC ICAG-2013 to another CIPM MRA designated institute. This paper serves as a technical and historical report of precision levelling, a sub-task of the ICAGs.Numéro de notice : A2012-703 Affiliation des auteurs : IGN+Ext (2012-2019) Thématique : POSITIONNEMENT Nature : Article DOI : 10.1088/0026-1394/49/1/007 Date de publication en ligne : 17/11/2011 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1088/0026-1394/49/1/007 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=79601

Altogether 24 institutes with 22 absolute gravimeters and 9 relative gravimeters participated in the ICAG/RGC campaign. Accurate absolute and relative gravity measurements as well as precision levelling measurements were performed on the micro-gravity 3D-grid at the BIPM.
The 2009 comparison was the first to be organized as a Comité International des Poids et Mesures (CIPM) metrological Key Comparison under the CIPM MRA (Mutual Recognition Arrangement), which means that the result will be officially recognized by the governmental organizations responsible. As a consequence, the relative gravimeters employed were carefully selected and the measurement schedules were rigorously enforced compared with earlier campaigns. Thus the quality of the RGC2009 and the determination of the BIPM local gravity network were improved.
After 30 years and eight successive ICAGs, the BIPM has decided to transfer its role to the national metrological institutes, although the CIPM will continue to organize the key comparison as ICAGs. The background to the RGC2009, and the organization, data processing and final results of the gravity and vertical gravity gradients, are presented in this paper. This report is more detailed than previous final reports of the RGCs.Numéro de notice : A2012-734 Affiliation des auteurs : IGN+Ext (2012-2019) Thématique : POSITIONNEMENT Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1088/0026-1394/49/1/014 Date de publication en ligne : 07/12/2011 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1088/0026-1394/49/1/014 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=91453

[Termes IGN] surveillance géologiqueRésumé : (auteur) The Bouillante high enthalpy geothermal field, 250-260°C, is located in the Guadeloupe volcanic Island (French West Indies). Since 2005, the new geothermal power plant has had an installed capacity of 15 MWe gross which represents about 8% of the annual electricity needs in the Island. It is supplied by 3 wells which can produce up to 120 tons/h of steam. No residual water is re-injected. Among the research efforts carried out by the BRGM group and partially funded by ADEME (French Environment and Energy Management Agency), different monitoring methods of the geothermal exploitation have been started, tested and developed in order to optimize and secure electricity production and to control its impact on the immediate environment of the power plant. This is especially important because the power plant is located inside the Bouillante town. These methods are: geochemical monitoring of the fluids collected from the geothermal wells and neighboring thermal springs in order to control the evolution of the fluid geochemistry and the Gas/Steam Ratio, surface soil thermometry monitoring, geophysical monitoring such as broadband seismology, microgravity and SAR interferometry to detect mass transfers or changes in the geothermal reservoir during its exploitation as well as vertical surface ground deformations. This paper presents the main results and conclusions obtained from these different monitoring techniques. On the whole, despite the pressure decrease observed in the geothermal reservoir due to an annual production estimated at about 4.5 millions of tons of fluid, no significant variation of the monitored parameters has been detected from these methods during four quasi-continuous years of geothermal exploitation. Most of these monitoring techniques will be continued and probably developed in the next few years, especially if the produced fluids are re-injected, in order to anticipate and/or quickly take into account problems such as issues related to chemical change of the reservoir fluid or induced microseismicity. [Termes IGN] traitement de donnéesRésumé : (auteur) Since the 1st International Comparison of Absolute Gravimeters (ICAG) and accompanying Relative Gravity Campaign (RGC) held at the BIPM in 1981, repeated ICAG-RGCs have been organized every four years. A total of 19 absolute gravimeters (AG) and 15 relative gravimeters (RG) participated in the 7th ICAG-RGC, which took place in 2005. Co-located absolute and relative gravity measurements as well as precision levelling measurements were carried out. The final version of the absolute g values of the 7th ICAG has been officially released recently. This paper is the final report of the 7th RGC and replaces the preliminary results published earlier. It covers the organization of the RGC and the data processing, analyses RG behaviour, computes g, δg and OAG (offset of AG) and discusses their uncertainties. In preparation for the BIPM key comparison ICAG-2009, a standard data-processing procedure has been developed and installed in the BIPM ICAG-RGC software package, GraviSoft. This was used for the final data processing.
