[Vedettes matières IGN] Ecologie forestièreRésumé : (auteur) The Vegetation Prodrome of Italy was promoted in 2012 by the Italian “Ministry of Environment, Land and Sea Protection”,in collaboration with the “Italian Society of Botany”, to provide a comprehensive and systematic catalogue and description ofItalian plant communities. The Prodrome that is presented in this paper is the first full organic synthesis of the vegetation ofItaly at the alliance syntaxonomic level. It fulfils several needs, the main one being a unified and comprehensive nationalframework that may make an important contribution to the definition of the European Vegetation Prodrome. Syntaxonomy,as well as taxonomy, is sometimes based on considerations that may in part diverge: several authors tend to favour modelsthat are divisive or aggregative to a greater or lesser extent in terms of flora, biogeography and ecology. These different pointsof view stimulate the scientific debate and allow the adoption of a framework that is more widely supported. The Prodromeincludes 75 classes, 2 subclasses, 175 orders, 6 suborders and 393 alliances. The classes were grouped into nine broadcategories according to structural, physiognomic and synecological elements rather than to syntaxonomic criteria. The rank, full valid name, any synonymies and incorrect names are provided for eachsyntaxon. The short declaration highlights thephysiognomy, synecology, syndynamics and distribution of the plant communities that belong to thesyntaxon. The Prodromeof the Italian Vegetation is linked to the European Strategy for Biodiversity, the European Habitats Directive and theEuropean Working Groups related to the ecosystems and their services. In addition to basic applications, the Prodrome canbe used as a framework for scientific research related to the investigation of the relationships between plant communities andthe environmental factors that influence their composition and distribution. [Vedettes matières IGN] Ecologie forestièreRésumé : (auteur) Here we present a phytosociological analysis of the forest biodiversity of the Gargano Peninsula, located in the eastern part of the Italian peninsula. As well as presenting all of the woods described and classified in terms of their phytosociology to date, we present the following plant associations that are mainly distributed in the low supratemperate and upper mesotemperate bioclimatic belts: Carici halleranae-Ostryetum carpinifoliae ass. nova; Polysticho setiferi-Ostryetum carpinifoliae ass. nova; Rubio peregrinae-Aceretum campestris; Physospermo verticillati-Quercetum cerris; Doronico orientalis-Carpinetum betuli; Pulmonario apenninae-Aceretum neapolitani ass. nova; Teucrio siculi-Aceretum campestris ass. nova; Festuco exaltatae-Tilietum platyphylli ass. nova; Phyllitido scolopendri-Lauretum nobilis ass. nova and Aremonio agrimonioidis-Fagetum sylvaticae ass. nova. For these, subassociations and variants are described. The syntaxonomic classification allows the description of two new syntaxa at the heirarchical level of alliances: Physospermo verticillati-Quercion cerris, all. nova, the southern Italian substitute for the alliance Erythronio-Carpinion, which includes the southern mesophilous Turkey oak, European hornbeam, Neapolitan maple and field maple woods; Lauro nobilis-Tilion platyphylli all. nova, the southern substitute for the alliance Tilio platyphylli-Acerion pseudoplatani. [Vedettes matières IGN] Ecologie forestièreRésumé : (auteur) A syntaxonomic revision of the holm-oak and cork-oak woods of Sardinia is here presented. The geological and phytoclimatic heterogeneity of the island and the wide ecological amplitude of the holm-oak, result in a large phytocoenotic diversity of the Sardinian holm-oak woods. These are referred to five associations: Pyro amygdaliformis-Quercetum ilicis, Prasio majoris-Quercetum ilicis ass. nova, Galio scabri-Quercetum ilicis, Saniculo europaeae-Quercetum ilicis ass. nova and Aceri monspessulani-Quercetum ilicis. From the phytogeographic point of view, in the subhumid-humid, meso-supramediterranean bioclimatic belts of Sardinia the presence of the association Galio scabri-Quercetum ilicis is found to be remarkable.
As far as the cork-oak woods are concerned, the associations Galio scabri-Quercetum suberis and Violo dehnhardtii-Quercetum suberis ass. nova are here reported.
The Sardinian-Corsican holm-oak and cork-oak woods define the western limit of the European central-Mediterranean alliance Fraxino orni-Quercion ilicis of which in Sardinia there are many characteristic and differential entities. In the Sardinian-Corsican holm-oak woods, however, there are endemic entities (Arum pictum ssp. pictum, Helleborus lividus ssp. corsicus, Digitalis purpurea var. gyspergerae, Quercus ichnusaePaeonia morisii) and other western-centred entities with little or no spread on the Italian peninsula (Galium scabrum, Clematis cirrhosa and Teucrium scorodonia). These entities allow the proposal that within the alliance Fraxino orni-Quercion ilicis can be recognised the new Sardinian-Corsican suballiance Clematido cirrhosae-Quercenion ilicisPrasio majoris-Quercetum ilicis ass. nova), which is endemic to the Sardinian and Corsican sectors of the Italo-Tyrrhenian Province. Consequently, the suballiance Fraxino orni-Quercenion ilicis, which is the typical of the alliance Fraxino orni-Quercion ilicis, has also been proposed.

[Vedettes matières IGN] Ecologie forestièreRésumé : (auteur) We present here a contribution towards a new syntaxonomic definition of the holm oak woods present in the Central European Mediterranean Basin, within which the territories of the Italian peninsula play a connecting role between the Tyrrhenian area to the west and the Adriatic to the east, including the biogeographic territories of the Italian-Tyrrhenian, the Apennino-Balkan and the Adriatic Provinces. This analysis was conducted starting from a phytosociological table comprising 151 surveys, some of which are unpublished, of the holm oak woods present in Italian (excluding Sardinia) and Croatian territories. Consideration of these surveys has allowed the definition of two main ecological groups of holm oak woods, of which one is thermophilous and the other mesophilous. Thirteen associations have been defined, of which three are newly described. These associations are attributed to the new alliance Fraxino orni-Quercion ilicis, here proposed. The syntaxonomic scheme of the communities under study is presented at the end of this report. [Vedettes matières IGN] Ecologie forestièreRésumé : (auteur) On the vegetation of the Quercetea ilicis class in Sardinia. The most important plant associations of the Quercetea ilicis class in Sardinian are here presented. Among them, the new Clematido cirrhosae-Quercetum ilicis and Galio scabri-Qauercetum suberis associations, respectively describe the climatophilous mesomediterranean sumhumid holm oak woods and the natural climatophilous mesomediterranean subhumid cork oak woods of Sardinia. For both the associations are also described some subassociations with which the associations are present in different bioclimatic belts.
