Much of the discussion centers around topic five since it was hoped that testing would make it possible to evolve a cartographic tool of some value. Unfortunately, the psychophysical and cartographic complexities of the problem have shown the need for more research and the results are less complete than originally visualized. It has been possible, however, to develop guide lines for the use of a graded series of shadings on isarithmic maps.
