[Termes IGN] Open GIS ConsortiumRésumé : (Auteur) A main problem in the geospatial community is often not the missing existence of geodata and geo-services, but the way to find and access it. Therefore metainformationsystems (catalog services), providing functions for the management and retrieval of metainformation play the role of "work-horses" in spatial data infrastructures (SDI's). TerraCatalog, an innovative Open GIS Consortium - compliant software framework, developed by con terra, is an excellent choice for building advanced catalog services. [Termes IGN] WindowsRésumé : (Auteur) STAR GIS V6.2 is the latest product of STAR INFORMATIC from Belgium, a wholly European developed GIS software program. Design and built upon Microsoft compatibility, " STAR GIS is the ideal software platform for setting-up applications aimed at users who need to query and update the database, produce reports and perform thematic analysis " as stated. STAR GIS V6.2 is one product in a line of products that integrate together. Other STAR INFORMATIC programs include WINSTAR for setting up data models and performing transactional functions as well as exploiting 3D data. STAR NEXT provides the ability to design web applications that are oriented toward utilities and public administration, while MERCATOR provides cartographic publishing solutions. Collectively, these products can be used together or independently. STAR GIS 6.2 is the primary data management and GIS program and may be considered the foundation of the trio. The following is a review of STAR GIS 6.2. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) GIS play nowadays a major role in geosciences and related fields. GIS can be successfully utilized for other applications. Also indicators related to health and health care facilities have a spatial component, which can be geocoded, mapped and visualized in thematic maps. With GIS, geo-objects and their spatial inter-relationships can be visualized and analyzed in order to recognize certain spatial patterns, which might not be obvious from tabular data alone. Now, four years later, we are getting ready for the next (20th) Congress which is being held in Istanbul, Turkey between 13th and 23rd July, 2004. The last four years have simply flown by, with lots of innovation and development, especially in the imaging field. Without doubt, much of the focus in the technical exhibition will be on these imagers, while, in the lecture sessions, we can expect to hear how they are being applied to a wide range of projects in the mapping, field and environmental sciences.
