[Termes IGN] temps réelRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a method for object detection with sub-pixel accuracy in digital images satisfying real-time applications. The method uses an approximation of the level-set-based contour evolution, which applies only integer operations in a fast two-cycle algorithm to achieve real-time performance. Level-set-based contour evolution forms a part of the geometric active contour process, which combines image data and a priori geometric knowledge of an object to be evolved over an image towards the object border. The algorithm avoids the solution of partial differential equations. Instead only integer operations are applied and the contour evolution is performed by using a two-cycle algorithm. The proposed method for object detection with sub-pixel accuracy refines the pixel-accurate result of the level-set-based contour evolution algorithm by using a fast parabolic fitting mechanism. Sub-pixel accuracy of the resulting object contours is achieved by adjusting every contour point towards the nearby maximum of the image gradient. Real-time performance can be provided because the adjustment is performed only once after the contour evolution. Experimental results with images from industry, photogrammetry, remote sensing and medicine show the functionality and applicability of this method to several fields of work. In addition, the experiments are evaluated by applying quality measures for the geometric accuracy and the run time. [Termes IGN] mise à jour de base de donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) The integration of heterogeneous geospatial data offers possibilities to manually and automatically derive new information, which are not available when using only a single data source. Furthermore, it allows for a consistent representation and the propagation of updates from one data set to the other. However, different acquisition methods, data schemata and updating cycles of the content can lead to discrepancies in geometric and thematic accuracy and correctness which hamper the combined integration. To overcome these difficulties, appropriate methods for the integration and harmonization of data from different sources and of different types are needed. In this paper, we describe two generic cases including novel integration algorithms, namely the integration of two heterogeneous vector data sets, and the integration of raster and vector data. Both algorithms are linked to a federated database which allows for automatic object matching and for managing n:m relationships. We describe and illustrate our work using vector data from topography and the geosciences, as well as multi-spectral imagery. [Termes IGN] test de performanceRésumé : (Auteur) The verification of existing data is an important task in order to ensure a high level of data quality, such as is needed in geographic information systems (GIS). Today, this work is carried out manually by an operator, who compares vector data from databases with remotely sensed imagery. In this paper, a system for automated road data verification using digital image processing for the extraction of roads from aerial imagery and topological analysis in order to optimise the whole process in terms of reliability and efficiency is presented. The main goal is to call the operator's attention only to parts of the network, where the automated process did not find sufficient evidence of a road. The road extraction is supported by the use of prior knowledge on the global level (whether the road is situated in rural, urban or forest areas), and information on the road geometry and its attributes. The road extraction is executed twice. Firstly, with a strict parameter control ensuring the minimization of false positives and a subsequent evaluation, which denotes roads from the database being accepted or rejected. In a second step, a graph-based search algorithm detects connections, which are missing for an optimised road network. If rejected roads are part of these connections, they are checked again using a more tolerant parameter control. A detailed performance analysis of results shows the applicability of the proposed method for quality control of topographic road databases.
