These three-dimensional models in dynamic GIS can provide an interesting tool for the environmental and territorial data management. Aim of this research is to set up procedures for generating a three-dimensional map with maximum characteristics of description and the best accuracy, in order to be over the bidimensional GIS mapping system. DTMs, orthoimages and their 3D models overlay are performed by softwares dedicated to digital photogrammetry (ER Mapper, Surfer) and CAD designs (3dStudio Max, AutoCAD 2000). Successively these representations have been elaborated within the GIS system for a series of different themes and queries, which can be of a great support for a decision system. The use of geographic computerised system is fundamental to acquire, manage and revise all sort of information. This work shows how to create a complete, as far as the cartography is concerned, threedimensional database within the GIS system. Digital sensor derived images, or digitalised images, remote sensing acquired, or any other spatial referred qualitative or quantitative data can be used as data for the application of new methodologies and new procedures for the cartographical elaborations and their representations. Their final products, or the intermediate ones, are easily managed by very well and worldwide known systems, such as the GIS one. [Termes IGN] visualisation 3DRésumé : (Auteur) Digital and automated photogrammetric methods and procedures developed for the collection and management of spatial data have been well introduced on archaeological applications. The use of terrestrial laser scanning systems provides new capabilities for 3D visualization of the present situation of a site. Recently, special tools in Spatial Information Systems (SIS) and management systems of virtual world models (VR) have been developed. Their combination can provide relevant scientists and users with a variety of possibilities for the creation of integrated systems capable for documentation, restoration and cultural development of archaeological monuments and sites, with: the detailed 3D documentation of the present condition of the site, the development of a multi-purpose SIS and the introduction of modern digital products at a local museum, such as 3D representations, creation of virtual environment, Web applications. Application of these techniques and systems was made to the archaeological site of the Mycenae, one of the most important sites worldwide. Photogrammetric procedures and laser scanning were used for the data collection. Airphotos were taken by helicopter and a large number of terrestrial photos by analogue and digital cameras. Orthophoto production for the site and detailed 3D vector restitutions, horizontal plans, facades and sections were made. In addition 3D views of vector data and textural scenes were produced by automated procedures. The development of the SIS is based not only on the data and products of the photogrammetric processing, but also on various other data sources, as the structure of the system contains historic, archaeological, architectural and technical information, with texts, digital images (recent and old pictures, old graphic representations etc.), video, 2D or 3D views plans, 3D representations of particular parts of the site, visualization of tour paths. The establishing of a local museum at the Mycenae is one more challenge for applying phorogrammetric procedures, object modelling techniques with laser scanning, texture mapping, 3D representations, VR applications and Web-related issues. The paper investigates all these possibilities in relation with the data of the particular archaeological site concerning the information supply, the difficulty in demonstrating moveable findings of great value, which are exposed in other museums, and also the knowhow and the financial parameters. In a steady shift from traditional 2D--GIS toward 3D-GIS, a great amount of accurate 3D city models have become necessary to be produced in a short period of time and provided widely on the market. The authors have developed a system for automatic generation of 3D city models, using laser profiler data, 2D digital map, and aerial image, which are processed by the software newly developed. MapCube, the 3D city models generated by the system, has already covered all major cities of Japan at the end of 2002. Applications for virtual reality (VR) that deal with accurate and photo-realistic 3D city models are becoming indispensable in many fields. However, there had been no VR viewer that can appropriately deal with a great amount of 3D city data in real time. In order to solve the problem the authors have developed a new VR viewer called Urban Viewer that can make best use of 3D city models, especially MapCube. VR applications used on display devices should provide easy interactive operation. The authors have developed a new type of VR display device with optical sensors called NEXTRAX, which users can operate as easily as touch-panel display, with more accuracy of operation and much more durability. NEXTRAX also provides simultaneous display of co-related information including 3D city model, 2D digital map and varieties of multimedia information. [Termes IGN] visualisation 3DIndex. décimale : 33.70 Photogrammétrie terrestre Résumé : (Auteur) Virtual Reality based geographic information systems (VRGIS) are successfully employed today for realtime visualization in such diverse fields as urban planning, city planning, and architectural design.
Today a VRGIS based software solution has to facilitate the interactive visualization of high-resolution 3D terrain data over inter- and intranet. Due to advanced software technology and innovative data management concepts, large amounts of data may be processed in realtime. Digital elevation models, high resolution orthophotos, satellite images, 3d buildings and vector data provide the real time application with the information to display excellent high quality representations of complex terrains and landscapes.

[Termes IGN] XMLIndex. décimale : 33.30 Photogrammétrie numérique Résumé : (Auteur) The establishment and visualisation of large, reality-based 3D landscape and city models has received significant attention over the last few years - both in the scientific and the commercial community. Recent progress in 3D data capturing and web-based visualisation technologies are opening up new possibilities for a wide-spread use of 3D landscape models as a basis for new and exciting information and entertainment services. However, with the rapidly increasing size and complexity of the 3D models being acquired, a pressing need for suitable data management solutions has become apparent. This paper outlines why 3D GIS technologies are a key factor in establishing and maintaining large-scale, reality-based 3D geoinformation services. It also discusses specific features which should be provided by such 3D GIS in order to support the efficient visualisation and animation of reality-based landscape and city models. The aspects of managing reality-based 3D models within a 3D GIS environment are being investigated as part of the DILAS (Digital Landscape Server) project. DILAS is a fully DBMS supported framework and now a commercial product line - combining object-relational and XML technologies for the integrated management of very large 3D landscape and city models. The system provides a comprehensive support for colour, transparency, textures as well as animations and view control. This support for reality-based 3D models within a 3D GIS environment enables the automated generation of web-based 3D scenes with user-defined contents and appearance. The paper concludes with the presentation of pilot projects from application areas which will largely benefit from the functionality presented above.
