Résumé :	(auteur) Data reflecting movements of people, such as GPS or GSM tracks, can be a source of information about mobility behaviors and activities of people. Such information is required for various kinds of spatial planning in the public and business sectors. Movement data by themselves are semantically poor. Meaningful information can be derived by means of interactive visual analysis performed by a human expert; however, this is only possible for data about a small number of people. We suggest an approach that allows scaling to large datasets reflecting movements of numerous people. It includes extracting stops, clustering them for identifying personal places of interest (POIs), and creating temporal signatures of the POIs characterizing the temporal distribution of the stops with respect to the daily and weekly time cycles and the time line. The analyst can give meanings to selected POIs based on their temporal signatures (i.e., classify them as home, work, etc.), and then POIs with similar signatures can be classified automatically. We demonstrate the possibilities for interactive visual semantic analysis by example of GSM, GPS, and Twitter data. GPS data allow inferring richer semantic information, but temporal signatures alone may be insufficient for interpreting short stops. Twitter data are similar to GSM data but additionally contain message texts, which can help in place interpretation. We plan to develop an intelligent system that learns how to classify personal places and trips while a human analyst visually analyzes and semantically annotates selected subsets of movement data.

Résumé :	(auteur) This paper introduces a novel implementation of an online spatial registration service for the 3D GIS web-based street viewer which allows end-users to interact with different spatial data (panoramic image, laser, and open data) for accessibility diagnostics and street mobility services, and to navigate an immersive and superposed multilayer urban scene in 3D. To the best of our knowledge, there are no GIS web-based open street-view systems that propose an online spatial registration for either public or professional use. We have developed an online registration service inside the 3D GIS web-based street viewer which offers an interface to integrate many available open spatial data sources, to create superposed scenes combining different data, and to helps users to interact, measure and update 3D urban maps.

Résumé :	(auteur) This paper addresses the creation and maintenance of partitions of city surfaces for mapping and transportation applications. It proposes a hierarchical spatial surface partitioning, encoding the spatial partition with a 2D arrangement and structuring a generic hierarchy of semantic objects with a directed acyclic graph (DAG), in which the leaves point to the partition elements (polygonal regions, line strings, points). Semantic objects such as buildings, sidewalks and roads are described by grouping other objects and partition elements with their semantic relationships. In the proposed generic data model, geometry and spatial relationships of the semantic objects are respectively described by the geometry and topology of the planar partition. The proposed geometric data structure for creating and maintaining this partition is a 2D arrangement. In addition, the hierarchical object model encodes the thematic and semantic relationships between the objects. Besides the data model, methods and algorithms are discussed for leveraging existing vector datasets to create and maintain such partitions. These partitions are then fit to further processing and analysis using computational geometry and graph theory algorithms. For this purpose, three application-wise generic algorithms were integrated into our system called Streetmaker: two skeleton operators for centerline generation (straight skeleton and medial axis) and connectivity graphs for itinerary calculations. Moreover, specific algorithms can be integrated into Streetmaker for specific applications. We demonstrated an example usage of this framework for generating static obstacle avoiding pedestrian network graphs. The representation of the network graph and the process used to generate it, can be considered as the second contribution of our work besides the proposed data model.

Résumé :	(auteur) We present an algorithm for schematized focus maps. Focus maps integrate a high detailed, enlarged focus region continuously in a given base map. Recent methods integrate both with such low distortion that the focus region becomes hard to identify. We combine focus maps with partial schematization to display distortion of the context and to emphasize the focus region. Schematization visually conveys geographical accuracy, while not increasing map complexity. We extend the focus-map algorithm to incorporate geometric proximity relationships and show how to combine focus maps with schematization in order to cater to different use cases.
