Résumé : |
(auteur) The biogeographical significance and the plant diversity of the Mediterranean forests are analysed, taking into account pre-steppie, pre-forest and forest communities. The authors have studied this biodiversity in various areas: either continental (North Africa, Syria- Lebanon, Greece, France) or insular (Crete, Cyprus, Corsica). These assessments are based on the total plant richness, the level of endemism sensu Iato and the richness of phanerophytes. The results are discussed taking into consideration the environmental constraints (bioclimate, vegetation level, substratum diversity) and the regional biogeographic patterns, notably those linked to insularity. Broad-leaved forests show the highest plant richness and endemism level, notably at the humid supra-mediterranean belI. Alticolous forests with Pinus and Abie, and Cedrus forests exhibit also numerous endemovicariant species. Some substrata (serpentines, dolomites) appear to be more favourable to endemism and speciation processes. |
