[Termes IGN] simulation d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) This paper confirms the need for detailed 3D models for the simulation of high-resolution SAR images in order to support Persistent Scatterer Interferometry (PSl) focused on single urban objects. Using a building model enhanced by facade grammar, multiple reflections at building facades are analyzed using ray tracing techniques and scatterers are localized in azimuth, range, and elevation. In a case study, salient signatures of a TerraSAR-X image are analyzed based on simulated sar reflectivity maps. Phase centers of trihedral reflections are mapped onto the building model and the physical correspondence of scatterers to building features is investigated. Surfaces contributing to salient scatterers are identified at the building model. Eventually, the use of sar simulation to support PSI is shown from two aspects: (a) for providing a-priori information about building layover, and (b) for extending knowledge about the nature of dominant scatterers. [Termes IGN] reconstruction 3D du bâtiRésumé : (Auteur) Frequently, terrestrial LiDAR and image data are used to extract high resolution building geometry like windows, doors and protrusions for three-dimensional (3D) façade reconstruction. However, such a purely data driven bottom-up modelling of façade structures is only feasible if the available observations meet considerable requirements on data quality. Errors in measurement, varying point densities, reduced accuracies, as well as incomplete coverage affect the achievable correctness and reliability of the reconstruction result. While dependence on data quality is a general disadvantage with data driven bottom-up approaches, model based top-down reconstructions are much more robust. Algorithms introduce knowledge about the appearance and arrangement of objects. Thus, they cope with data uncertainty and allow for a procedural modelling of building structures in a predefined architectural style, which is inherent in grammar or model descriptions. We aim at a quality sensitive façade reconstruction which is on the one hand robust against erroneous and incomplete data, but on the other hand not subject to prespecified rules or models. For this purpose, we combine bottom-up and top-down strategies by integrating automatically inferred rules into a data driven reconstruction process. Façade models reconstructed during a bottom-up method serve as a knowledge base for further processing. Dominant or repetitive features and regularities as well as their hierarchical relationship are detected from the modelled façade elements and automatically translated into rules. These rules together with the 3D representations of the modelled façade elements constitute a formal grammar. It holds all the information which is necessary to reconstruct façades in the style of the given building. The paper demonstrates that the proposed algorithm is very flexible towards different data quality and incomplete sensor data. The inferred grammar is used for the verification of the façade model produced during the data driven reconstruction process and the generation of synthetic façades for which only partial or no sensor data is available. Moreover, knowledge propagation is not restricted to façades of one single building. Based on a small set of formal grammars derived from just a few observed buildings, façade reconstruction is also possible for whole districts featuring uniform architectural styles. [Termes IGN] UltraCamRésumé : (Auteur) Within the paper a comparative quantification of the spatial image resolution for large-format digital airborne cameras will be presented. For this purpose, imagery of the Leica ADS40, the Intergraph Z/I-imaging DMC and the Vexcel UltraCamD were examined. The respective spatial resolutions are represented by means of the point spread function, which can be measured easily and reliably at image edges. Thus, images of test patterns like a Siemens star were used. In addition to the evaluation of the original images as they are provided by the camera systems, the potential benefit of a resolution improvement by image restoration is demonstrated. Therefore, a linear restoring finite impulse response filter is applied. Usually, colour image acquisition by digital aerial camera systems is realised by combining data from the multi-spectral module with higher resolution panchromatic imagery. The quality of this pan-sharpening process is presented in the final part of the paper. For this purpose, the potential degradation of colour information by this process was quantified for the three tested camera systems in addition to the resolution measurements. [Termes IGN] restauration d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) Images that are collected for mapping purposes from airborne or space-borne sensors have to cover large areas by great image swaths at a high spatial resolution. These demands can be fulfilled by push-broom scanners featuring staggered line arrays, which are constructed from two identical CCD lines shifted against each other by half a pixel in line direction. Practical applications of such arrays in remote sensing include SPOT, and in the airborne environment the Airborne Digital Sensor, or ADS40, from Leica Geosystems. Furthermore, image restoration methods for enhancing the image quality can be applied to improve image quality and resolution. This paper presents an approach of high resolution image restitution from staggered lines and practical results with ADS40 high resolution panchromatic images.
