The experiments are based on calibration with a bundle adjustment using the equidistant fisheye lens model and relative orientation stability constraints, such as distance, base elements and rotation matrix between individual cameras’ coordinate systems. As a result, an equidistant mathematical model using the Conrady–Brown lens distortion model was shown to be suitable for estimating the interior and relative orientation parameters of the Ricoh Theta S. The main contribution presented in this work is a simultaneous bundle adjustment approach with stability constraints on base elements and rotation matrix angles, which achieved accuracies comparable with conventional photogrammetric calibration with perspective cameras. [Termes IGN] modélisation géométrique de prise de vueRésumé : (Auteur) Recently, multi‐projective cameras (MPCs), often based on frame‐mounted multiple cameras with a small baseline and arbitrary overlap, have found a remarkable place in geomatics and vision‐based applications. This paper outlines the geometric calibration of a general MPC by presenting a mathematical model that describes its unknown generic geometry. A modified bundle block adjustment is employed to calibrate an industrial‐level 360° non‐metric camera. The structure of any MPC can be retrieved as a calibration set of relative and interior orientation parameters (as well as the pose of the MPC shots) using a calibration room which has been accurately determined by close range photogrammetry. To demonstrate the efficiency and precision of the model, a Panono camera (an MPC with 36 individual cameras) was calibrated. After the adjustment, sub‐pixel image residuals and acceptable object‐space errors were observed. [Vedettes matières IGN] Inventaire forestierRésumé : (auteur) Remote sensing using unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) -borne sensors is currently a highly interesting approach for the estimation of forest characteristics. 3D remote sensing data from airborne laser scanning or digital stereo photogrammetry enable highly accurate estimation of forest variables related to the volume of growing stock and dimension of the trees, whereas recognition of tree species dominance and proportion of different tree species has been a major complication in remote sensing-based estimation of stand variables. In this study, the use of UAV-borne hyperspectral imagery was examined in combination with a high-resolution photogrammetric canopy height model in estimating forest variables of 298 sample plots. Data were captured from eleven separate test sites under weather conditions varying from sunny to cloudy and partially cloudy. Both calibrated hyperspectral reflectance images and uncalibrated imagery were tested in combination with a canopy height model based on RGB camera imagery using the k-nearest neighbour estimation method. The results indicate that this data combination allows accurate estimation of stand volume, mean height and diameter: the best relative RMSE values for those variables were 22.7%, 7.4% and 14.7%, respectively. In estimating volume and dimension-related variables, the use of a calibrated image mosaic did not bring significant improvement in the results. In estimating the volumes of individual tree species, the use of calibrated hyperspectral imagery generally brought marked improvement in the estimation accuracy; the best relative RMSE values for the volumes for pine, spruce, larch and broadleaved trees were 34.5%, 57.2%, 45.7% and 42.0%, respectively. The emerging hyperspectral imaging technologies, based on frame cameras and tuneable filters, are attractive alternatives to hyperspectral pushbroom sensors. This paper addresses the geometric calibration process of a hyperspectral frame camera based on a Fabry–Perot interferometer. However, the addition of more optical elements in front of the image sensor can affect the parameters related to the internal geometry of the camera, and a deficiency in knowledge regarding these parameters can have a critical effect on the accuracy of 3D measurements in photogrammetric applications. The experiments focused on assessing the self-calibrating bundle adjustment to verify the behaviour of the interior parameters, considering different spectral bands. The results indicated that the applied self-calibration method can accurately characterise the interior parameters of this camera and that one set of parameters is required for each internal sensor.
