[Termes IGN] vergerRésumé : (auteur) C-band radar remote sensing is a suitable tool for monitoring agricultural areas on a large scale, providing access to information on vegetation such as plant biomass, or on the surface water content of the soil. Recent studies suggest that the water state and the physiological functioning of trees influence radar response leading to marked daily profiles of both radar backscattering coefficient and temporal coherence. The objective of this paper is to make a preliminary comparison between the temporal evolution of Sentinel-1 radar data and in situ radar measurements over a Mediterranean olive orchard located in Morocco. In situ radar data consist in quad polarizations measurements realized from a 20m high tower, every 15 minutes, for the period extending from May 2019 to October 2020. [Termes IGN] ventRésumé : (auteur) C-band radar observations are well known to have great potentials for the monitoring of crop hydric conditions. Recent studies suggested that the observed difference of backscattering coefficient between ascending and descending pass over tropical forest could be related to the physiological functioning of the trees. Likewise, the water movement within annual crops could lead to a daily cycle of both σo and temporal coherence. The objective of this paper is to present the preliminary results of an experiment carried out on a winter wheat field in Morocco that was instrumented with six C-band antennas during 2020 growing season. The preliminary results showed strong daily cycles of ρ and σo that are analyzed in relation to wind speed, surface soil moisture and evapotranspiration. This work open insights for the monitoring of the crop hydric status using C-band radar data acquired by Sentinel-1 and by potential future radar geostationary missions. [Termes IGN] triangulation de DelaunayRésumé : (auteur) We present an out-of-core and distributed surface reconstruction algorithm which scales efficiently on arbitrarily large point clouds (with optical centres) and produces a 3D watertight triangle mesh representing the surface of the underlying scene. Surface reconstruction from a point cloud is a difficult problem and existing state of the art approaches are usually based on complex pipelines making use of global algorithms (i.e. Delaunay triangulation, graph-cut optimisation). For one of these approaches, we investigate the distribution of all the steps (in particular Delaunay triangulation and graph-cut optimisation) in order to propose a fully scalable method. We show that the problem can be tiled and distributed across a cloud or a cluster of PCs by paying a careful attention to the interactions between tiles and using Spark computing framework. We confirm the efficiency of this approach with an in-depth quantitative evaluation and the successful reconstruction of a surface from a very large data set which combines more than 350 million aerial and terrestrial LiDAR points. Moreover, there is even less research on how to design an interactive visualization for comparison tasks on multiclass density maps. One application domain which requires this type of visualization for comparison tasks is crime analytics, and the lack of research in this area results in ineffective visual designs. To fill this gap, we study four types of techniques to compare multiclass density maps, using car theft data. The interactive techniques studied are swipe, translucent overlay, magic lens, and juxtaposition. The results of a user study (N=32) indicate that juxtaposition yields the worst performance to compare distributions, whereas swipe and magic lens perform the best in terms of time needed to complete the experiment. Our research provides empirical evidence on how to design interactive idioms for multiclass density spatial data, and it opens a line of research for other domains and visual tasks.
