[Termes IGN] transformation en ondelettesRésumé : (Auteur) Since hyperspectral images contain rich and fine spectral information, an improvement of land use/cover classification accuracy is highly expected from the utilization of such images. However, the traditional statistics-based classification methods which have been successfully applied to multispectral data in the past are not as effective as to hyperspectral data. One major reason is that the number of spectral bands is too large relative to the number of training samples. This problem is caused by curse of dimensionality, which refers to the fact that the sample size required for training a specific classifier grows exponentially with the number of spectral bands. A simple but sometimes very effective way to overcome this problem is to reduce the dimensionality of hyperspectral images. This can be done by feature extraction that a small number of salient features are extracted from the hyperspectral data when confronted with a limited size of training samples. In this paper, a new feature extraction method based on the matching pursuit (MP) is proposed to extract useful features for the classification of hyperspectral images. The matching pursuit algorithm uses a greedy strategy to find an adaptive and optimal representation of the hyperspectral data iteratively from a highly redundant wavelet packets dictionary. An AVIRIS data set was tested to illustrate the classification performance after matching pursuit method was applied. In addition, some existing feature extraction methods based on the wavelet transform are also compared with the matching pursuit method in terms of the classification accuracies. The experiment results showed that the wavelet and matching pursuit method exactly provide an effective tool for feature extraction. The classification problem caused by curse of dimensionality can be avoided by matching pursuit and wavelet-based dimensionality reduction. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) Unlike the simplification of independent line features, the generalization of terrain contour is to handle the “line group", which describes the geomorphologic characteristics, such as the terrain valley and ridge. In decision level, the real operation object in the terrain generalization is not the line segment itself but the drainage network contained in the contour representation. This paper presents a method to generalize contour based on the analysis of drainage structure. The first step is to extract the drainage system from the contour lines and build the associations between the valley branch and the bend group of contour lines. The second step is to analyse the properties of drainage tree structure to decide which branch to be removed, and then to perform the geometric elimination of bends. In this study the extraction of drainage system is directly from contour (other than from DTM data) based on the Delaunay triangulation model. Three kinds of tree structure organization are investigated: the hierarchical binary tree representing the bend inclusion relationship contained in each contour line, the planar structure tree describing valley topological relationship and the semantic hierarchical tree representing valley joint level structure from the point of view of hydrology. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) In image analysis, scale-space theory is used, e.g., for object recognition. A scale-space is obtained by deriving coarser representations at different scales from an image. With it, the behaviour of image features over scales can be analysed. One example of a scale-space is the reaction-diffusion-space, a combination of linear scale-space and mathematical morphology. As scale-spaces have an inherent abstraction capability, they are used here for the development of an automatic generalization procedure for three-dimensional (3D) building models. It can be used to generate level of detail (LOD) representations of 3D city models. Practically, it works by moving parallel facets towards each other until a 3D feature under a certain extent is eliminated or a gap is closed. As not all building structures consist of perpendicular facets, means for a squaring of non-orthogonal structures are given. Results for generalization and squaring are shown and remaining problems are discussed. [Termes IGN] superposition d'imagesRésumé : (Auteur) 3D surface matching would be an ill conditioned problem when the curvature of the object surface is either homogenous or isotropic, e.g. for plane or spherical types of objects. A reliable solution can only be achieved if supplementary information or functional constraints are introduced. In a previous paper, an algorithm for the least squares matching of overlapping 3D surfaces, which were digitized/sampled point by point using a laser scanner device, by the photogrammetric method or other techniques, was proposed [Gruen, A., and Akca, D., 2005. Least squares 3D surface and curve matching. ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing 59 (3), 151–174.]. That method estimates the transformation parameters between two or more fully 3D surfaces, minimizing the Euclidean distances instead of z-differences between the surfaces by least squares. In this paper, an extension to the basic algorithm is given, which can simultaneously match surface geometry and its attribute information, e.g. intensity, colour, temperature, etc. under a combined estimation model. Three experimental results based on terrestrial laser scanner point clouds are presented. The experiments show that the basic algorithm can solve the surface matching problem provided that the object surface has at least the minimal information. If not, the laser scanner derived intensities are used as supplementary information to find a reliable solution. The method derives its mathematical strength from the least squares image matching concept and offers a high level of flexibility for many kinds of 3D surface correspondence problem. [Termes IGN] superposition de donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) Surface measurement of complex geometric objects by means of optical techniques, such as laser scanning or photogrammetry, requires multiple views from various stations. The data sets of the views, e.g. point clouds and photogrammetric images, are given in individual coordinate systems. For a complete representation of the objects, the views have to be transformed into one common coordinate system. This task is denoted as registration and involves an estimation of the transformation parameters between different coordinate systems. In this paper, a concept for a pairwise feature based registration of hybrid laser scanner data sets is proposed. The concept includes the feature extraction and description by simultaneous consideration of laser scanner data and photogrammetric images, as well as the recognition of consistent feature correspondences. The features are viewpoint invariant and are described with a rectified image patch on planar surface geometry in object space. Two different data sets are used to demonstrate that the proposed concept for feature extraction, feature description and correspondence search is successful to register hybrid laser scanner data sets with a high level of automation. [Termes IGN] test de performanceRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, we describe the evaluation of a method for building detection by the Dempster–Shafer fusion of airborne laser scanner (ALS) data and multi-spectral images. For this purpose, ground truth was digitised for two test sites with quite different characteristics. Using these data sets, the heuristic models for the probability mass assignments are validated and improved, and rules for tuning the parameters are discussed. The sensitivity of the results to the most important control parameters of the method is assessed. Further we evaluate the contributions of the individual cues used in the classification process to determine the quality of the results. Applying our method with a standard set of parameters on two different ALS data sets with a spacing of about 1 point/m2, 95% of all buildings larger than 70 m2 could be detected and 95% of all detected buildings larger than 70 m2 were correct in both cases. Buildings smaller than 30 m2 could not be detected. The parameters used in the method have to be appropriately defined, but all except one (which must be determined in a training phase) can be determined from meaningful physical entities. Our research also shows that adding the multi-spectral images to the classification process improves the correctness of the results for small residential buildings by up to 20%.
