[Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (auteur) In this chapter, we review and summarize the current state of the art in geovisualization and extended reality (i.e., virtual, augmented and mixed reality), covering a wide range of approaches to these subjects in domains that are related to geographic information science. We introduce the relationship between geovisualization, extended reality and Digital Earth, provide some fundamental definitions of related terms, and discuss the introduced topics from a human-centric perspective. We describe related research areas including geovisual analytics and movement visualization, both of which have attracted wide interest from multidisciplinary communities in recent years. The last few sections describe the current progress in the use of immersive technologies and introduce the spectrum of terminology on virtual, augmented and mixed reality, as well as proposed research concepts in geographic information science and beyond. We finish with an overview of “dashboards”, which are used in visual analytics as well as in various immersive technologies. We believe the chapter covers important aspects of visualizing and interacting with current and future Digital Earth applications. [Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (auteur) In this paper, we assume that augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (MR) are relevant contexts for 3D urban geovisualization, especially in order to support the design of the urban spaces. We propose to design an in situ MR application, that could be helpful for urban designers, providing tools to interactively remove or replace buildings in situ. This use case requires advances regarding existing geovisualization methods. We highlight the need to adapt and extend existing 3D geovisualization pipelines, in order to adjust the specific requirements for AR/MR applications, in particular for data rendering and interaction. In order to reach this goal, we focus on and implement four elementary in situ and ex situ AR/MR experiments: each type of these AR/MR experiments helps to consider and specify a specific subproblem, i.e. scale modification, pose estimation, matching between scene and urban project realism, and the mix of real and virtual elements through portals, while proposing occlusion handling, rendering and interaction techniques to solve them. [Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (auteur) This talk introduces the results of MapMuxing, a collaborative project aiming at providing cartographic multiplexing techniques for crisis management. The project grouped researchers in geovisualisation, computer-human interaction and risk geography to better understand visualisation needs and design cartographic continuum and multiplexing techniques dedicated to tsunami crisis management. Our talk will focus on the visualisation of multi-representations and on the visualisation of uncertainty to enhance relevant further research to carry on with researchers in visualization. [Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (auteur) The use of geoportals facilitates access to reference topographic representations (IGN1, OSM2, etc.). In most cases, geoportals do not offer legend to users, thus impacting the interpretation and assimilation of visualised geographic information. Likewise, in some cases, particularly in border areas, geoportals provide heterogeneous representations of the territory that are difficult for users to interpret. In this context, the major challenge is to enrich the existing knowledge of cartographic design in order to produce easily interpretable cartographic representations that minimise the use of the legend. We propose a user-centred cartographic design model based on two key concepts: the visual signature and the cartographic family. These two concepts allow a map producer to design a map by taking into account the elements of legend learnt by users during their different cartographic experiences. In order to validate our model, we test it to design homogeneous cartographic representation at the Franco-Swiss border.
