[Termes IGN] télémètre laser terrestreRésumé : (auteur) We are currently developing a vision-based system aiming to perform a fully automatic pipeline for in situ photorealistic three-dimensional (3D) modeling of previously unknown, complex and unstructured underground environments. Since in such environments navigation sensors are not reliable, our system embeds only passive (camera) and active (laser) 3D vision senors. Laser Range Finders are particularly well suited for generating dense 3D maps by aligning multiples scans acquired from different viewpoints. Nevertheless, nowadays Iteratively Closest Point (ICP)-based scan matching techniques rely on heavy human operator intervention during a post-processing step. Since a human operator cannot access the site, these techniques are not suitable in high-risk underground environments. This paper presents an automatic on-line scan matcher able to cope with the nowadays 3D laser scanners’ architecture and to process either intensity or depth data to align scans, providing robustness with respect to the capture device. The proposed implementation emphasizes the portability of our algorithm on either single or multi-core embedded platforms for on-line mosaicing onboard 3D scanning devices. The proposed approach addresses key issues for in situ 3D modeling in difficult-to-access and unstructured environments and solves for the 3D scan matching problem within an environment-independent solution. Several tests performed in two prehistoric caves illustrate the reliability of the proposed method. [Termes IGN] zone urbaine denseRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents an automatic approach to road marking reconstruction using stereo pairs acquired by a mobile mapping system in a dense urban area. Two types of road markings were studied: zebra crossings (crosswalks) and dashed lines. These two types of road markings consist of strips having known shape and size. These geometric specifications are used to constrain the recognition of strips. In both cases (i.e. zebra crossings and dashed lines), the reconstruction method consists of three main steps. The first step extracts edge points from the left and right images of a stereo pair and computes 3D linked edges using a matching process. The second step comprises a filtering process that uses the known geometric specifications of road marking objects. The goal is to preserve linked edges that can plausibly belong to road markings and to filter others out. The final step uses the remaining linked edges to fit a theoretical model to the data. The method developed has been used for processing a large number of images. Road markings are successfully and precisely reconstructed in dense urban areas under real traffic conditions. [Termes IGN] transformation de HoughRésumé : (auteur) This paper presents an approach for extracting 3D outlined planar clusters of street facades. Terrestrial laser data are acquired using a Mobile Mapping System (MMS). Mapping of street facades is of great interest in various digital mapping and robotic research topics. After a filtering step of the 3D point cloud, the dominant hypothetical facade planes are detected using an adapted Progressive Probabilistic Hough Transform (PPHT). The corresponding planar clusters are extracted using a priori geometric knowledge of street. The clusters are horizontally and vertically delimited using heuristic approaches. The adapted PPHT allows the automatic extraction of georeferenced planar clusters of facades with a fine detection of dominant facade lines and a low computation time. The adopted approach has been tested on a set of point cloud acquired in the city of Paris under real conditions. Examples and experimental results show the efficiency and the potential of the proposed approach. [Termes IGN] texturageRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents an operational approach for extracting wire-frame models of street facades. Georeferenced terrestrial laser rawdata are acquired by a Mobile Mapping System (MMS). The MMS constitutes an adapted tool to massively collect accurate data at street level. After a filtering step of the 3D raw point cloud of street, the street point cloud is segmented into a cloud of dominant facade walls. Piecewise quasi-planar facade cloud are then extracted using an adapted Progressive Probabilistic Hough Transform (PPHT). At the planimetric level, a cadastral map issue from an urban database is employed to segment the cloud of planar clusters into residential facade portion. Finally, each portion is vertically delimited using heuristic approaches. The adapted PPHT allows the automatic modeling of facade outlines with a fine facade line detection and a low computation time. The adapted approach has been tested on a set of point clouds acquired in the city of Paris under real conditions. Examples and experimental results show the efficiency of the proposed approach.
