[Termes IGN] villeRésumé : (auteur) During last decade, needs for high resolution land cover data have been growing. Such knowledge is namely often required in environment monitoring studies. Thus, to answer these needs, national mapping or environment agencies, in many countries, have undertaken the production of such large scale national land cover database. Nevertheless, these databases provide a general classification and may not suit some specific (often new) applications requiring a semantic or geometric finer level of details. That is to say that, on one hand, additional land cover classes should sometimes be specified, whereas, on the other hand, some existing classes should be delineated at a finer level.
More particularly, in urban areas, knowledge concerning very high resolution land cover and especially material classification are necessary for several city modelling applications. Most of these applications are still experimental scientific ones in various fields such as micro-meteorology, hydrology, pollutants flow monitoring and ground perviousness monitoring. Thus, knowledge concerning the roofing materials or the different kinds of ground areas (pervious, vegetated, impervious…) are required. Airborne remote sensing techniques appear to be convenient for providing such information at a large scale since no existing map contains such information. However, remote sensing imagery of urban environments from airborne acquisitions namely still remains a major scientific issue, since on one hand, urban areas are characterized by a high variety of materials, and on the other hand, results provided by most of the traditional processing methods based on usual red-green-blue-near infrared multispectral images remain limited for such applications. A possible way to improve classification results is to enhance the imagery spectral resolution using superspectral or hyperspectral imagery.
Thus, the present experiments are part of a work aiming at designing a future superspectral camera system dedicated to high resolution urban land cover classification applications, and especially material mapping. The choice of optimal band sets will here be processed from a set of airborne hyperspectral data.
A data acquisition campaign named UMBRA has recently been carried out thanks to the French collaboration of IGN and ONERA. Data have been captured over two French cities chosen for their difference in building architecture, urbanization planning and their variety in urban material. Airborne images have been acquired simultaneously by multispectral and hyperspectral cameras with a ground sampling distance ranging from 0.12m for multispectral to 1.6m for hyperspectral in the SWIR channels. The images were radiometrically and geometrically calibrated and have a noticeable low signal-to-noise ratio.
The first urban land cover / material classification results obtained from this new reference data set will be presented in this paper.Numéro de notice : C2013-043 Affiliation des auteurs : LASTIG MATIS+Ext (2012-2019) Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Communication nature-HAL : ComSansActesPubliés-Unpublished DOI : sans Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=80250 Documents numériques

[Termes IGN] scène urbaineRésumé : (auteur) The knowledge of the sky illumination is important for radiometric corrections and for computer graphics applications such as relighting or augmented reality. We propose an approach to compute environment maps, representing the sky radiance, from a set of ground-based images acquired by a panoramic acquisition system, for instance a mobile-mapping system. These images can be affected by important radiometric artifacts, such as bloom or overexposure. A Perez radiance model is estimated with the blue sky pixels of the images, and used to compute additive corrections in order to reduce these radiometric artifacts. The sky pixels are then aggregated in an environment map, which still suffers from discontinuities on stitching edges. The influence of the quality of estimated sky radiance on the simulated light signal is measured quantitatively on a simple synthetic urban scene; in our case, the maximal error for the total sensor radiance is about 10%. [Termes IGN] scène urbaineRésumé : (auteur) Terrestrial geolocalized images are nowadays widely used on the Internet, mainly in urban areas, through immersion services such as Google Street View. On the long run, we seek to enhance the visualization of these images. For that purpose, radiometric corrections must be performed to free them from illumination conditions at the time of acquisition. Given the simultaneously acquired 3D geometric model of the scene with LIDAR or vision techniques, we face an inverse problem where the illumination and the geometry of the scene are known and the reflectance of the scene is to be estimated. Our main contribution is the introduction of a symbolic ray-tracing rendering to generate parametric images, for quick evaluation and comparison with the acquired images. The proposed approach is then based on an iterative estimation of the reflectance parameters of the materials, using a single rendering pre-processing. We validate the method on synthetic data with linear BRDF models and discuss the limitations of the proposed approach with more general non-linear BRDF models. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) Automatic mapping of urban materials from remotely sensed radiance images remains difficult because of the complex phenomena induced by relief. Indeed, shadows and environment effects disrupt the radiance reaching the sensor. The measured radiance also depends on the illumination conditions of the observed area. This paper describes a new physical model, ICARE, able to solve the radiative transfer inversion problem in urban areas, in the reflective domain (0.4–2.5 µm), from high spatial and spectral resolution images. This new approach takes into account the relief, the spatial heterogeneity of the scene and atmospheric effects, in order to extract rigorously the ground surface reflectance. The resolution method consists of modelling separately the irradiance and radiance components at ground and sensor levels. Three input data are required to solve this inverse problem: atmospheric parameters (aerosol type and visibility), 3D digital vector models of the scene, and spectral at-sensor calibrated images of the scene. The validation of ICARE is checked through the CAPITOUL field campaign, carried out over Toulouse (France). Measurements were performed using two airborne Pelican image systems consisting of 8 high spatial (20 cm) and spectral (30 nm) resolution cameras. Results are presented over typical urban structures in Toulouse center. ICARE performance is expected to be better than 0.04 in the reflectance retrieval, even in shadowed areas. To quantify the gain brought by ICARE, a comparison between classification based on radiance and retrieved reflectance images, obtained by inversion, is introduced. The results show that the classification is improved from 54% for a flat ground assumption to 74% using ICARE.
