[Termes IGN] Triangulated Irregular NetworkRésumé : (auteur) Terrain models are widely used to depict the shape of the Earth’s surface. With the development of photogrammetric methods, point cloud data have become one of the most popular data sources for terrain modelling. However, the obtained point clouds are of high density, which often increases redundancy rather than improving accuracy. Therefore, point cloud simplification should be a core component of terrain modelling. This paper proposes a point cloud simplification method by integrating topographic knowledge into terrain modelling (TKPCS). The method contains two steps: (1) topographic knowledge recognition and construction and (2) point cloud simplification using this topographic knowledge for terrain modelling. The proposed approach is benchmarked against improved versions of existing methods to validate its capability and accuracy in digital elevation model construction and terrain derivative extraction. The results show that the simplified points of the TKPCS method can generate finer resolution terrain models with higher accuracy and greater information entropy. The good performance of the TKPCS method is also stable at different scales. This work endeavours to transform perceptive topographic knowledge into a process of point cloud simplification and can benefit future research related to terrain modelling. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) Machine intelligent perception (MIP) provides a novel way for human beings to recognize geographical locations automatically. MIP of geographical locations enables computers to describe locations automatically and quantitatively by extracting Earth's surface features and building relationships. The earth surface fingerprint is established here by mining the relationship between spatial objects with stable characteristics extracted from urban high-resolution remote sensing images, which realizes intelligent perception of geographical location innovatively. Mask Region-based Convolutional Neural Network is used to automatically extract the spatial objects such as playgrounds, crossroads, and bridges from the images. Then, the extracted spatial objects are encoded according to the landuse type, distance, and angle of 24 nearest objects to construct urban surface fingerprint database. The urban surface fingerprint database is used to match the geographical location of spatial objects in local images so that the matching algorithm can be used for machine recognition of the geographical location of specific objects in the target image. Taking the main cities in China as the experimental area, the success rate of location perception is 92%. We have made a useful exploration in the field of MIP of geographical location, hoping to promote the development of human cognition of geographical location. We used a retrospective approach to monitor genomic changes in oak trees since the Little Ice Age (LIA). Allelic frequency changes were assessed from whole-genome pooled sequences for four age-structured cohorts of sessile oak (Quercus petraea) dating back to 1680, in each of three different oak forests in France. The genetic covariances of allelic frequency changes increased between successive time periods, highlighting genome-wide effects of linked selection. We found imprints of parallel linked selection in the three forests during the late LIA, and a shift of selection during more recent time periods of the Anthropocene. The changes in allelic covariances within and between forests mirrored the documented changes in the occurrence of extreme events (droughts and frosts) over the last 300 years. The genomic regions with the highest covariances were enriched in genes involved in plant responses to pathogens and abiotic stresses (temperature and drought). These responses are consistent with the reported sequence of frost (or drought) and disease damage ultimately leading to the oak dieback after extreme events. They provide support for adaptive evolution of long-lived species during recent climatic changes. Although we acknowledge that other sources (e.g., gene flow, generation overlap) may have contributed to temporal covariances of allelic frequency changes, the consistent and correlated response across the three forests lends support to the existence of a systematic driving force such as natural selection. The quality of such maps is affected by several factors, such as (a) the matching between the features on images and the graphic symbols from maps, (b) the complexity of background images, and (c) the representation of graphic and text symbols on the images. This project deals with the first issue. The current solution is that the accuracy of images should satisfy the accuracy standard of maps. However, images with different resolutions can satisfy the standard for a specific map scale. This may lead to a situation in which the levels of detail (LoD) in images may not match the complexity of map features although the planimetric accuracy is matched. To solve this problem, we developed a complexity-based matching between the image resolution and map scale. More precisely, the matching is based on the complexity of line features. Experimental evaluations were conducted in 15 representative areas in Hong Kong using maps at seven scales and eight image resolutions. Results show that the proposed complexity-based method is capable of obtaining good matching between image resolution and map scale in terms of both accuracy and users’ preference.
