[Termes IGN] simulation d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) The paper deals with the modelling of landscapes for the simulation of very high spatial resolution images in the thermal infrared range, from 3 to 14 µm. It focuses on the influence of the 3-D effects on the simulation. The major relevant physical processes are described. Examples are made, comparing simulations obtained with 2-D and 3-D representation of the landscape. They help in classifying the relative influence of each process. The necessity to take into account a 3-D landscape respresentation for the simulation of very high spatial resolution images in the infrared range is also demonstrated. [Termes IGN] villeRésumé : (Auteur) Atmospheric pollution becomes a critical factor of anticipated deaths, which concerns ambient air quality as well as air quality in houses and places of work. For the well being of human and for the population information, we need to evaluate the actual exposure of persons to ambient pollution. One way to perform it is to evaluate the space time budget of air pollution exposition. Hence an information on the spatial distribution of pollutant concentrations is required. Several tools exist ; most of them provide maps of pollutant concentrations but over a regional scale with a grid of 1 km, which is insufficient. Measuring stations scarcely distributed in the city, provide a complete surveillance but their costs limit the knowledge of pollutant concentration to specific points of the city. To overcome this problem, several notions are defined : "identity card of a measuring station", "pseudostation" and "virtual station". Based on a multi-sources approach, this paper presents a methodology using remotely sensed data for the mapping of pollutant concentrations over a city. [Termes IGN] transformation en ondelettesRésumé : (Auteur) In various applications of remote sensing, when high spatial résolution is required in addition with classification results, sensor fusion is a solution. From a set of images with different spatial and spectral resolutions, the aim is to synthesize images with the highest spatial resolution available in the set and with an appropriate spectral content. Several sensor fusion and methods exist; most of them improve the spatial resolution but provide poor quality of the spectral content of the resulting image. Based on a rnultiresolution modeling of the information, the ARSIS concept (from its French name "Amélioration de la Résolution Spatiale par Injection de Structures") was designed with the aim of improving the spatial resolution together with a high quality in the spectral content of the synthesized images. The general case for the application of this concept is described. A quantitative comparison of all presented methods achieved for a SPOT image. Another example of the fusion of SPOT XS (20-m) and KVR-1000 (2-m) images is given. Practical information for the implementation of the wavelet transform, the multiresolution analysis, and the ARSIS concept by practitioners is given with particular relevance to SPOT and Landsat imagery. [Termes IGN] NantesRésumé : (Auteur) This paper deals with the major factors influencing the detection of urban fabrics in ERS-SAR images. Data, in SLC and PRI format, were acquired over the city of Nantes (West of France). The analysis of the data was performed in conjunction with aerial photographs, maps, meteorological data, as well as a field survey. The ways in which urban fabrics and their environment, data processing techniques, and weather conditions affect the radar signal are examined and discussed. It is found that many effects originate from the geometry of urban features, as well as their orientation relative to the spacecraft orbit. This investigation adds evidence to the fact that specular scattering prevails over the diffuse scattering in an urban area. Practical conclusions concerning the capabilities and the limitations of ERS-SAR imagery are drawn.
