[Termes IGN] surface de la merRésumé : (auteur) The geodetic Corsica site was set up in 1998 in order to perform altimeter calibration of the TOPEX/Poseidon (T/P) mission and subsequently, Jason-1, OSTM/Jason-2, Jason-3 and more recently Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich (launched on November, 21 2020). The aim of the present study held in June 2015 is to validate a recently developed GNSS-based sea level instrument (called CalNaGeo) that is designed with the intention to map Sea Surface Heights (SSH) over large areas. This has been undertaken using the well-defined geodetic infrastructure deployed at Senetosa Cape, and involved the estimation of the stability of the waterline (and thus the instantaneous separation of a GNSS antenna from water level) as a function of the velocity at which the instrument is towed. The results show a largely linear relationship which is approximately 1 mm/(m/s) up to a maximum practical towing speed of ∼10 knots (∼5 m/s). By comparing to the existing “geoid” map, it is also demonstrated that CalNaGeo can measure a sea surface slope with a precision better than 1 mm/km (∼2.5% of the physical slope). Different processing techniques are used and compared including GNSS Precise Point Positioning (PPP, where the goal is to extend SSH mapping far from coastal GNSS reference stations) showing an agreement at the 1-2 cm level. [Termes IGN] station de mesureRésumé : (auteur) Improving and homogenizing time and space reference systems on Earth and, more directly, realizing the Terrestrial Reference Frame (TRF) with an accuracy of 1mm and a long-term stability of 0.1mm/year are relevant for many scientific and societal endeavors. The knowledge of the TRF is fundamental for Earth and navigation sciences. For instance, quantifying sea level change strongly depends on an accurate determination of the geocenter motion but also of the positions of continental and island reference stations, as well as the ground stations of tracking networks. Also, numerous applications in geophysics require absolute millimeter precision from the reference frame, as for example monitoring tectonic motion or crustal deformation for predicting natural hazards. The TRF accuracy to be achieved represents the consensus of various authorities which has enunciated geodesy requirements for Earth sciences.
Today we are still far from these ambitious accuracy and stability goals for the realization of the TRF. However, a combination and co-location of all four space geodetic techniques on one satellite platform can significantly contribute to achieving these goals. This is the purpose of the GENESIS mission, proposed as a component of the FutureNAV program of the European Space Agency. The GENESIS platform will be a dynamic space geodetic observatory carrying all the geodetic instruments referenced to one another through carefully calibrated space ties. The co-location of the techniques in space will solve the inconsistencies and biases between the different geodetic techniques in order to reach the TRF accuracy and stability goals endorsed by the various international authorities and the scientific community. [Termes IGN] télémétrie laser transportableRésumé : (auteur) Tahiti is a unique geodetic site located in the south Pacific Ocean where few observatories exist nearby. The American mobile station MOBLAS-8 was installed in Tahiti in 1998, and GPS and DORIS systems were also deployed in its vicinity in order to develop this site into one of the fundamental colocated sites of the International Terrestrial Reference Frame. In order to make a new estimate of the colocation differences between the different techniques, a campaign of the French Transportable Laser Ranging System (FTLRS) was conducted in Tahiti between April and October 2011. The FTLRS was deployed close to the existing equipment. Observations for LAGEOS 1, LAGEOS 2 and Starlette were studied, and the solutions to the local ties between FTLRS, MOBLAS-8, DORIS and GPS were evaluated. Our results of the geodetic local-ties between laser stations and GPS agree well with the measurements made by the Institut National de l’Information Géographique et Forestière (IGN) during the campaign, with differences less than 2 mm in the vertical direction. The laser station range biases as a function of satellites are also presented, −3 (±2) mm for MOBLAS-8 and 3 (±3) mm for FTLRS, respectively. In addition, we investigated the role of time bias (ranging from a few hundreds of nanoseconds to one microsecond) given by the Time Transfer by Laser Link experiment, which shows a limited impact on the present SLR analysis. We also compared the coordinates of the three available techniques at Tahiti, i.e., laser, GPS and DORIS. We found the accuracy of laser solutions still needs to be improved, so that the SLR at Tahiti could contribute more effectively to the tracking of satellites and thus to the international reference frame. This study is useful in evaluating the SLR and other space techniques in order to prepare the deployment of new equipment in Tahiti in the near future. [Termes IGN] repère de référenceRésumé : (auteur) We examine the impact of the strategy adopted regarding range biases on Satellite Laser Ranging data processing results. More especially, we test the stability of the weekly Terrestrial Reference Frame scale factors computed w.r.t. ITRF2000 according to the two different strategies which are studied in this paper. In the first approach, range biases are not considered in the data processing. In the second approach, we use a temporal de-correlation method to rigorously estimate all station range biases. The first approach provides weekly scale factors with a piece-wise behavior. More precisely, the time series exhibit a drift of − 2.5 ± 0.2 mm/yr between 2001.0 and 2006.0 and provide a RMS of 5.2 mm. The second approach, which makes the most physical sense, really provides regular weekly scale factors. Indeed, between 2001.0 and 2006.0, these series exhibit a drift of − 0.7 ± 0.2 mm/yr and the RMS of the whole time series is 3.7 mm. Moreover, less discontinuities are detected in the station position residual time series provided by the second approach than in those produced with the first approach.
