The intensively farmed watershed is characterized by a mountainous and hilly topography and a rainy climate. The primary goal of this paper is to help a better understanding of land-use/cover change and its driving forces. We discuss spatio temporal variations in rainfall and sediment loads and identify factors contributing to those variations, analyze the comprehensive impacts of land-use/cover change on changing climate and human activities, and conclude that the changing rates of forest cover and climate regimes are primary factors for sediment discharges in the Poyang Lake watershed. Our results suggest that the eco-system still have large capacities to support human activities in the area. [Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents preliminary results of updated land use-land cover (LULC) maps for two Spanish provinces using MERIS-FR images, data from the Third National Forest Inventory (NFI3) ground plots, and the European database CORINE Land Cover 2000 (CLC2000). Legend categories were defined using the FAO legend-based European Global Land Cover (GLC2000) product. The applied methodology is based on maximum likelihood supervised classification of MERIS-FR images. The delimitation of training areas was based on the NFI3 ground plots and CLC2000. High overall accuracies were obtained for Navarra (73.67%) and Murcia (73.70%). These preliminary results show that MERIS-FR data allow an operational development of LULC maps/products at medium scales. Results from the comparison between MERIS-based classifications and available thematic maps are also presented. [Termes IGN] variable régionaliséeRésumé : (Auteur) Difficulties exist in calculating watershed parameters from raster datasets over large regions because of the excessive computation time involved. A technique is presented which divides a large region into hydrologically distinct subregions, in each of which raster analyses are performed, in order to efficiently process large raster datasets. The results of raster analyses are stored as attributes on the resulting vector data. The vector data are then merged, and appropriate values accumulated to obtain regional parameter values for points of interest along the stream network. The technique, called Raster-Network Regionalization, uses the vector stream network as the backbone for the integration of subregions into a single region. A case study is presented which utilizes the technique to prepare geospatial inputs for the Water Rights Analysis Package simulation model. [Termes IGN] télémétrie laser aéroportéRésumé : (Auteur) At the dynamic coastal fringe, numerous processes interact with local morphology. In soft-cliff environments, this can often lead to the occurrence of coastal geohazards. These can pose a major threat to property and cultural heritage, and an effective monitoring strategy is therefore essential. While contemporary monitoring techniques have been applied, these are often unsuitable in isolation. This paper presents an integrated approach, with the development of weighted surface matching software enabling reliable dataset fusion and multi-temporal change detection, even where significant surface differences exist. Evaluation of this approach is presented and discussed.
