Aiming at reducing the technical bottlenecks of management and visualization of very large point cloud data sets, this paper proposes a new spatial organization method called 3DOR-Tree, which integrates Octree and 3D R-Tree data structures. This method utilizes Octree's rapid convergence to generate R-Tree leaf nodes, which are inserted directly into the R-Tree, thus avoiding time-consuming point-by-point insertion operations. Furthermore, this paper extends the R-Tree structure to support LOD (level of detail) models. Based on the extended structure, a practical data management method is presented. Finally, an adaptive control method for LODS of point clouds is illustrated. Typical experimental results show that our method possesses quasi-real-time index construction speed, a good storage utilization rate, and efficient visualization performance. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) Polygon generalisation is an essential process to produce multi-scale polygonal maps which are able to visualize categorical data at various levels of detail and with multiple themes. Detecting geometric conflicts, existing within an individual polygon and between polygons, is a primary step for polygon generalisation. This paper designs an inward-outward-buffering approach to detect narrow conflicts within an individual polygon. The approach not only detects the existence of narrow sections but also indicates their exact locations inside polygons. Another approach is presented to detect proximity conflicts in between polygons with two main steps. The first step associates buffering with an optimized proximity index to explore possible polygon clusters and spatial contexts around a problematic polygon. Based on the detected polygon clusters, the conflict regions are identified by combining outward-inward-buffering with topological operators. The tests with a real landuse dataset and two maps from other papers demonstrate that the presented approaches not only detect geometric conflict effectively, but also provide useful information for the selection of subsequent generalisation operators. [Termes descripteurs IGN] web sémantiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Recent advances in Semantic Web and Web Service technologies has shown promise for automatically deriving geospatial information and knowledge from Earth science data distributed over the Web. In a service-oriented environment, the data, information, and knowledge are often consumed or produced by complex, distributed geoscientific workflows or service chains. In order for the chaining results to be consumable, sufficient metadata for data products to be delivered by service chains must be provided. This paper proposes automatic generation of geospatial metadata for Earth science virtual data products. A virtual data product is represented using process models, and can be materialized on demand by dynamically binding and chaining archived data and services, as opposed to requiring that Earth science data products be physically archived. Semantics-enabled geospatial metadata is generated, validated, and propagated during the materialization of a virtual data product. The generated metadata not only provides a context in which end-users can interpret data products before intensive execution of service chains, but also assures semantic consistency of the service chains. [Termes descripteurs IGN] reconstruction 3D du bâtiRésumé : (Auteur) A novel approach by integrating multi-view aerial imagery and lidar data is proposed to reconstruct 3D building models with accurate geometric position and fine details. First, a new algorithm is introduced for determination of principal orientations of a building, thus benefiting to improve the correctness and robustness of boundary segment extraction in aerial imagery. A new dynamic selection strategy based on lidar point density analysis and K-means clustering is then proposed to identify boundary segments from non-boundary segments. Second, 3D boundary segments are determined by incorporating lidar data and the 2D segments extracted from multi-view imagery. Finally, a new strategy for 3D building model reconstruction including automatic recovery of lost boundaries and robust reconstruction of rooftop patches is introduced. The experimental results indicate that the proposed approach can provide high quality 3D models with high-correctness, high-completeness, and good geometric accuracy. [Termes descripteurs IGN] WebSIGRésumé : (Auteur) Recent advances in Web-related technologies have significantly promoted the wide sharing and integrated analysis of distributed geospatial data. Geospatial applications often involve diverse sources of data and complex geoprocessing functions. Existing Web-based GIS focuses more on access to distributed geospatial data. In scientific problem solving, the ability to carry out geospatial analysis is essential to geoscientific discovery. This article presents the design and implementation of GeoPW, a set of services providing geoprocessing functions over the Web. The concept of the Geospatial Processing Web is discussed to address the geoprocessing demands in the emerging information infrastructure, and the role of GeoPW in establishing the Geospatial Processing Web is identified. The services in GeoPW are implemented by developing middleware that wraps legacy GIS analysis components to provide a large number of geoprocessing utilities over the Web. These services are open and accessible to the public, and they support integrated geoprocessing on the Web.
