[Termes IGN] série temporelleRésumé : (Auteur) We examine the contribution of the Doppler Orbit determination and Radiopositioning Integrated by Satellite (DORIS) technique to the International Terrestrial Reference Frame (ITRF2005) by evaluating the quality of the submitted solutions as well as that of the frame parameters, especially the origin and the scale. Unlike the previous versions of the ITRF, ITRF2005 is constructed with input data in the form of time-series of station positions (weekly for satellite techniques and daily for VLBI) and daily Earth orientation parameters (EOPs), including full variance–covariance information. Analysis of the DORIS station positions’ time-series indicates an internal precision reaching 15 mm or better, at a weekly sampling. A cumulative solution using 12 years of weekly time-series was obtained and compared to a similar International GNSS Service (IGS) GPS solution (at 37 co-located sites) yielding a weighted root mean scatter (WRMS) of the order of 8 mm in position (at the epoch of minimum variance) and about 2.5 mm/year in velocity. The quality of this cumulative solution resulting from the combination of two individual DORIS solutions is better than any individual solution. A quality assessment of polar motion embedded in the contributed DORIS solutions is performed by comparison with the results of other space-geodetic techniques and in particular GPS. The inferred WRMS of polar motion varies significantly from one DORIS solution to another and is between 0.5 and 2 mas, depending on the strategy used and in particular estimating or not polar motion rate by the analysis centers. This particular aspect certainly needs more investigation by the DORIS Analysis Centers. [Termes IGN] Global Geodetic Observing System
[Termes IGN] station de référenceRésumé : (auteur) Analysing time series of space-geodetic station coordinates, we show that VLBI, SLR and DORIS station motions have a white noise error spectrum, while the majority of GPS station motion have a flicker noise error spectrum. In the latter case, discontinuities in the series do not account for this spectrum. Atmospheric loading has a white noise spectrum, at a much lower level than geodetic measurement errors in the long term. The series of transformation parameters derived for the GPS colocation sub-networks with VLBI, SLR and DORIS have very close spectral characteristics, reaching the 1 mm stability level at one-year interval in a white noise context. [Termes IGN] station permanenteRésumé : (auteur) We have demonstrated the possibility of deriving both station coordinates and Earth Orientation Parameters (EOP) using weekly normal equations derived from the processing of different space-geodetictechniques: VLBI, SLR, LLR, DORIS and GPS. The work is performed in the frame of a joint project within the GRGS, Groupe de Recherches de Géodésie Spatiale, federation of French institutes. Observations of the different techniques: VLBI, SLR, LLR, DORIS and GPS are processed separately at the different institutes where in addition expertise can be found for the specific technique. Before such products are adopted as references, different problems concerning the stabilization of the terrestrial reference frame have to be solved in addition to upgrading the individual techniques processing to the best possible level of accuracy. [Termes IGN] combinaison au niveau des observationsRésumé : (auteur) Although the accuracy or consistency of space geodesy products at the level of 0.1 ppb, or 0.6 mm over the Earth surface, is not yet achieved today, it should however be a challenging target within the Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS) perspective in order to meet Earth science requirement. Neither an individual space geodesy technique nor their combination could be regarded as achieving that level of accuracy or consistency. For simplicity, we mean here by accuracy, the quantitative metric level at which space geodesy techniques are able to determine positions of points or objects over the Earth surface or in its nearby space. This of course implies the availability of a global reference frame, the indispensable standard against which our geodetic products are evaluated. Combination, and implicitly comparison of multiple solutions of geodetic products of a single or several techniques, is considered to be an efficient tool to both bring to the fore discrepancies between solutions/techniques and to yield a more reliable combined product, being gathering the strengths of the combined solutions/techniques. Combination of raw observations of all or multiple space geodesy techniques, using a coherent and unique modeling, could be regarded, ideally, as the rigorous way to allow consistency between the different products. Based on our experience of both types of combination, we try in this paper to (1) evaluate the current attainable accuracy or consistency and to (2) underline the limitation factors of space geodesy techniques and their combination. We restrict our discussion in this paper to two main space geodesy products: the Terrestrial Reference Frame (TRF) and Earth Orientation Parameters (EOPs).
