Famous global mapping services such as ArcGIS Online, Bing Maps, Google Maps, or Yandex Maps can provide users with address information of any geographic coordinates using reverse geocoding. The accuracy of retrieved addresses is quite essential for a service user. Several researchers have evaluated the accuracy of the process based on the positional errors between the retrieved and actual addresses. This article proposes a different assessment based on text similarity algorithms. In this study, the authors examine the outcomes of 15 different text similarity algorithms by comparing them with the reference data. They benefit from the binary logistic regression to evaluate the results. At the end of the case study, they conclude that the soft-term frequency/inverse document frequency algorithm is the most appropriate to measure the quality of postal addresses of all tested services. The Jaccard algorithm also produces successful results only for Google and Bing Maps services. Moreover, the study allows the reader to assess the results of reverse geocoding derived from the global map platforms that serve in the test region. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) This paper proposes a compound hierarchy to be used in cartographic labelling of streets. The main purposes of this hierarchy are to ease navigation of street maps and to provide more understandability and legibility of street features for map users. The hierarchy uses centrality measures along with functional classes of the streets to order features according to their spatial importance in each used zoom level. The calculation of a proper radius, to be employed in the calculations of centrality measures, is based on extracting proper field of view in the map user’s focus status. The used measures are integrated using fuzzy-analytic hierarchy process, yielding proper coefficients to create the hierarchy. The hierarchy is applied for the thinning process and later for using the styled layer descriptor to label street features. Quality constrains are implemented to make the street labels more understandable and readable. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) This paper introduces a new hierarchy for cartographic generalisation processes, applied in street networks. The aims of implementing this hierarchy are to emphasise on significant street features, and to provide more free spaces between street features. The hierarchy is obtained from the functional classes of the features and four centrality measures in a street network, i.e. betweenness, reach, straightness and closeness extracted from a primary graph. The values of centrality measures change in every zoom level by calculating a radius parameter, which depends on the users’ field of view. The coefficients for the measures are constructed using a decision-making technique called fuzzy analytical hierarchy process (FAHP). The weights for each of the centrality measures are computed and normalised to form the proposed hierarchy. The hierarchy is applied and used later in the thinning process to omit insignificant features from the street network in medium scales. [Termes descripteurs IGN] réseau routierRésumé : (auteur) Road objects in a network data model are categorised into a hierarchical structure in accordance with their functions and capacities. In this study; five road attributes derived from semantic, geometric and topological properties of network data set (i.e. road class, road length and centralities of degree, closeness and betweenness) are utilised for the creation of road network hierarchy. The relationships with each attributes except road class and their effects on the determination of road importance are analysed by using a distribution graph and the equation of Pearson correlation coefficient. For creating road network hierarchy, integration process is achieved through the application of fuzzy analytic hierarchy process assuming attributes as the fuzzy criteria. The integration process is followed by the calculation of new priority attribute that indicates the importance of road objects. At the end of the process, road class, which is the most important attribute, is also used for the validation of proposed methodology. The results show that the new priority value of a road is superior to its each attribute value in hierarchical organisation.
