[Termes IGN] structure-from-motionRésumé : (auteur) Accurate alignment of 3D models is critical for valid change‐detection analysis from multitemporal photogrammetric datasets. This paper assesses an automated registration strategy which uses the scale‐invariant feature transform (SIFT) algorithm implemented in modern photogrammetric software. This registration solution, also known as “Time‐SIFT”, was tested at two study sites featuring vertical surfaces, including a sea cliff (~500 m2) and a quarry face (~50 000 m2). Tests demonstrated that the investigated registration strategy can achieve accurate alignments between multitemporal point clouds even when using multisource and multi‐perspective data, captured across widely varying spatial and temporal scales and under a range of weather and illumination conditions. The combination of the Time‐SIFT approach with an ICP algorithm produced moderate improvements in the alignment. Furthermore, the use of an innovative direct georeferencing technique, which used the tracking feature of a robotic total station, allowed for accurate georectification of 3D models. [Termes IGN] vibrationRésumé : (Auteur) Photogrammetry has been used in the past to monitor the laboratory testing of civil engineering structures using multiple image-based sensors. This has been successful, but detecting vibrations during dynamic structural tests has proved more challenging because they usually depend on high-speed cameras which often results in lower image resolutions and reduced accuracy. To overcome this limitation, a novel approach has been devised to take measurements from blurred images in long-exposure photographs. The motion of the structure is captured in individual motion-blurred images without dependence on imaging speed. A bespoke algorithm then determines each measurement point's motion. Using photogrammetric techniques, a model structure's motion with respect to different excitation frequencies is captured and its vibration envelope recreated in 3D. The approach is tested and used to identify changes in the model's vibration response. [Termes IGN] traitement d'imageRésumé : (auteur) Recent and future climate change may lead to landscape changes in geomorphic processes and process rates. Such modifications are likely to be widely distributed, making their direct measurement difficult and there are almost no such measurements at decadal intervals. Aerial imagery has been acquired by many national agencies since the 1950s and significant archives remain. Unlocking the information from these data sources is important because their timescale may inform significant unresolved hypotheses regarding the impact of rapid climate change on Alpine environments. However, such photogrammetric applications are challenging because of topographic complexity (including occlusions and large elevation ranges) and variations in image texture. A complete workflow is described from raw data to the treatment and interpretation of results. This is applied to imagery of Val d'Héréns, Switzerland, a landscape containing an assemblage of glacial, periglacial, hillslope and fluvial landforms across a height range of 1800 to 3600 m from the 1960s to the present. These changes reveal important characteristics of landscape scale erosion and deposition at the decadal scale. [Termes IGN] traitement d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have become an interesting and active research topic for photogrammetry. Current research is based on images acquired by UAVs which have a high ground resolution and good spectral resolution due to low flight altitudes combined with a high-resolution camera. One of the main problems preventing full automation of data processing of UAV imagery is the unknown degradation effect of blur caused by camera movement during image acquisition. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the influence of blur on photogrammetric image processing. Images with precisely known motion blur were produced to determine the effect. It was found that even small blurs affect normal photogrammetric processes significantly. Although operator intervention might be time consuming, it can ensure that the results are still of acceptable accuracy. [Termes IGN] photogrammétrie terrestreRésumé : (Auteur) Close range photogrammetry has proved effective as a cost-effective and easy-to-use method for cultural heritage recording. Off-the-shelf digital cameras can be used to rapidly acquire data at low cost, allowing non-experts to become more involved in their local heritage, an important aspiration identified in this collaboration between English Heritage and Loughborough University. To achieve this while also allowing for measurements in a 3D national reference system, a recording system has been developed that is capable of deriving the exterior orientation during exposure directly and cheaply. The system comprises a digital camera, a small 3D orientation sensor and a GNSS antenna, assembled in a frame that allows calibration of the offsets between the components. Test field data was used to investigate calibration precision and stability as well as achievable absolute and relative accuracy. The results of data analysis indicate that the system can meet the accuracy requirements for medium accuracy heritage recording, even with slightly unstable offset calibration values.
