[Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) The integration of geographic information systems (GIS) and spatio-temporal modeling procedures with Internet technology can significantly improve the decision-making process for environmental and disaster management. The objective of this study is to develop an approach to integrate a cellular automata (CA) forest fire behavior model with the world wide web. The developed CA model extends the capability of the static raster GIS by incorporating spatial dynamics into the forest fire phenomena. The developed CA model comprises topographic, forest fuel and weather variables as the key drivers of forest fires. The web-based modeling environment used ASP.NET as the server-side platform, and client-side programming with JavaScript extended the functionality of the web client. The web-based CA model and its consistent user-friendly interface will provide fire managers with a decision support and rapid disaster management tool with such advantages as access to real-time geospatial and environmental data, computer platform independence, and enhanced accessibility of spatial modeling tools. [Termes IGN] système expertRésumé : (Auteur) The use of fuzzy set theory has become common in remote sensing and geographical information system (GIS) applications to deal with issues surrounding the uncertainty of geospatial datasets. The objective of this study is to develop a model that integrates the concept of fuzzy set theory with remote sensing and GIS in order to produce susceptibility maps of insect infestations in forest landscapes. Fuzzy set theory was applied to information extracted from multiple-year high resolution remote sensing data and integrated in a rasterbased GIS to create a map indicating the spatial variation of insect susceptibility in a landscape. Variable-specific fuzzy membership functions were developed based on expert knowledge and existing data, and integrated through a semantic import model. The results from a case study on mountain pine beetle (Dendroctonus ponderosae Hopkins) illustrate that the model provides a method to successfully estimate areas of varying susceptibility to insect infestation from high resolution remote sensing images. It was concluded that fuzzy sets are an adequate method for dealing with uncertainty in defining susceptibility variables. The susceptibility maps can be utilized for guiding management decisions based on the spatial aspects of insect-host relationships. [Termes IGN] tempsRésumé : (Auteur) This paper describes an application of fuzzy set theory to perform temporal interpolation in a raster GIS database. Specific fuzzy membership functions have been derived to simulate spatial changes between consecutive snapshots registered in the database. The proposed approach is tested on a very dynamic rural-urban environment of Montreal Metropolitan area in Quebec, Canada, covering the period from 1956 to 1986 with a temporal resolution of ten years. A user friendly software package named FUZZY TEMP was developed and integrated in the GRASS 4.1 environment in order to perform the implementation of the developed concepts.
