[Termes IGN] volcanRésumé : (Auteur) We present a detailed study of Lascar volcano (Chile) based on the combination of satellite, aerial and ground-based data, in order (i) to better characterize the deformation style of Andean explosive volcanoes, and (ii) to provide new insights on the potential of space techniques to monitor active volcanic deformations on such edifices. Lascar is one of the most active volcanoes in Central Andes characterized by a recent cyclic activity. Additionally, it is located in favourable conditions for radar imaging. Lascar thus offers very good conditions for studying large to, small scale ground deformations associated with volcano dynamics. The analysis of InSAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar interferometry) time series data from the European and Japanese satellites (ERS, JERS) acquired between 1993 and 2000, encompassing three eruptive events, confirmed the absence of broad far-field deformation signal. Thus during the recent activity of Lascar we discard significant magmatic input at depth. The following approaches were used to improve the InSAR signal/noise ratio in order to detect possible local deformation. We carried out a quantitative evaluation of the potential tropospheric contribution in INSAR interferograms for the Salar de Atacama-Lascar area using radar (ASAR-ENVISAT) and spectrometer (MODIS) data. We also used an accurate aerial photogrammetric and GPS constrained DEM in our InSAR data reprocessing. We find a co-eruptive ground-deformation confined into the summit crater for the 1995 eruption. This deformation bas spatial dimension of 500 by 400 m and relates to a subsidence of crater floor up to 17 mm. We interpret it as pressure or volume decrease at subsurface levels below the active crater. Our study made it possible to image a new near-field volcanic deformation confined within the summit crater of the Lascar volcano. It also demonstrates that the combination of precise photogrammetry DEM and INSAR data can significantly improve our ability to, rernotely sense subtle surface deformation on these explosive volcanoes. This methodology might contribute to, better understand volcano dynamics and to complement their monitoring in remote areas. [Termes IGN] ondelette d'Abel-PoissonRésumé : (auteur) Potential fields are classically represented on the sphere using spherical harmonics. However,
this decomposition leads to numerical difficulties when data to be modelled are irregularly distributed or cover a regional zone. To overcome this drawback, we develop a new representation
of the magnetic and the gravity fields based on wavelet frames.
In this paper, we first describe how to build wavelet frames on the sphere. The chosen frames
are based on the Poisson multipole wavelets, which are of special interest for geophysical
modelling, since their scaling parameter is linked to the multipole depth (Holschneider et al.).
The implementation of wavelet frames results from a discretization of the continuous wavelet
transform in space and scale. We also build different frames using two kinds of spherical meshes
and various scale sequences. We then validate the mathematical method through simple fits of
scalar functions on the sphere, named ‘scalar models’. Moreover, we propose magnetic and
gravity models, referred to as ‘vectorial models’, taking into account geophysical constraints.
We then discuss the representation of the Earth’s magnetic and gravity fields from data regularly
or irregularly distributed. Comparisons of the obtained wavelet models with the initial spherical
harmonic models point out the advantages of wavelet modelling when the used magnetic or
gravity data are sparsely distributed or cover just a very local zone.Numéro de notice : A2005-615 Affiliation des auteurs : LAREG+Ext (1991-2011) Thématique : POSITIONNEMENT Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1111/j.1365-246X.2005.02754.x Date de publication en ligne : 01/12/2005 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1111/j.1365-246X.2005.02754.x Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=102897

[Termes IGN] problème inverseRésumé : (auteur) The problem of finding the density distribution of the Earth from gravity data is called the inverse gravimetric problem. It is well known that this problem has not a unique solution. A possible approach to force the uniqueness of the solution is to impose the solution to realize a minimum of energy, that is to be an equilibrium distribution. Several authors have considered this possibility by setting the energy to the sole energy of the potential field. In this paper, we show that such approaches correspond to the maximization of a quadratic form in the set of the density distributions considered as an Hilbert space. As a consequence, they cannot deliver realistic results without a constraint that reduces the set of possible density distributions to a bounded domain of the considered Hilbert space. Moreover, under such constraints, the result will necessarily be located at the boundary of the searched domain. In order to express a steady state condition leading to a freer solution, we propose to introduce a compression energy. We choose the state equation of Murnaghan that is known to apply reasonably in the upper mantle. We give an integral form of the compression energy and show that the resulting total energy admits a lower bound, which assess the existence of a solution. Finally, we derive a differential equation verified by that the absolute minima from the equilibrium equation under its local form. [Termes IGN] transformation en ondelettesRésumé : (auteur) Present and forthcoming satellite gravity missions provide us with new and unique datasets in order to model the Earth's gravity field at 100 km resolution. These new models will bring significant advances in our understanding of the Earth's structure and dynamics. However, it will be necessary to combine satellite data with surface and airborne measurements in order to improve the short wavelength components of the gravity field. The derived regional models with an increased spatial resolution will be used to carry out geodynamic studies at lithospheric or crustal scale. Whereas the classical spherical harmonics decomposition leads to strong numerical difficulties when dealing with local features, wavelet-based representations can handle the local scales as well as the global ones; they should thus be extremely useful to derive local models taking into account data of different origins. Here we describe the construction of wavelet frames on the sphere based on the Poisson multipole wavelet. Those wavelets are of special interest for field modelling since their shape is linked to the potential of multipole sources, and their scaling parameter to the multipole depth (Holschneider et al., 2003). We also compute a local wavelet decomposition of the gravity field at high resolution from evenly and unevenly distributed data using least squares collocation. Our first results show the efficiency of such a representation.
