The initial assumption is that digital generalization requires appropriate representations of features which are to be generalized. The algorithms presented in this paper allow to construct a representation of roads by making use of parameterized curves (currently, cubic curves) and to provide additional information, i.e. characteristic points: inflexion points and vertices. These may then be put to good use in a generalization process.
