Although currently the most accurate FG5 and FG5X gravimeters declare standard uncertainties at the level of 2−3μGal, their inherent systematic errors affect the gravity reference determined by international key comparisons based predominately on the use of FG5-type instruments. The measurement results for FG5-215 and FG5X-251 clearly showed that the measured g-values depend on the size of the fringe signal and that this effect might be approximated by a linear regression with a slope of up to 0.030μGal/mV. However, these empirical results do not enable one to identify the source of the effect or to determine a reasonable reference fringe level for correcting g-values in an absolute sense. Therefore, both gravimeters were equipped with new measuring systems (according to Křen et al. in Metrologia 53:27–40, 2016. https://doi.org/10.1088/0026-1394/53/1/27 applied for FG5), running in parallel with the original systems. The new systems use an analogue-to-digital converter HS5 to digitize the fringe signal and a new method of fringe signal analysis based on FFT swept bandpass filtering. We demonstrate that the source of the fringe size effect is connected to a distortion of the fringe signal due to the electronic components used in the FG5(X) gravimeters. To obtain a bias-free g-value, the FFT swept method should be applied for the determination of zero-crossings. A comparison of g-values obtained from the new and the original systems clearly shows that the original system might be biased by approximately 3−5μGal due to improperly distorted fringe signal processing. [Termes IGN] métrologieRésumé : (auteur) Accurate gravity measurements were made to support the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) watt balance (WB) project in association with the eighth International Comparison of Absolute Gravimeters (ICAG-2009) and the accompanying Relative Gravity Campaign (RGC-2009) at the BIPM in 2009. The goal of WB project is to determine the Planck constant h for the realization of a new definition of the kilogram. The accurate value of free fall acceleration g is crucial for the precise determination of h. During the formal ICAG-2009 and the RGC-2009, four absolute and six relative gravimeters took part in the WB gravity campaign. The results can therefore be converted to the international reference of the ICAG results, i.e., they are SI-traceable. The WB gravity network is a regular 3D grid over the site in the WB laboratory that serves to evaluate gravity acceleration at the test mass centre of the future WB setup. The local Earth tide parameters were determined by analyzing a 6 months record of a gPhone spring-type gravimeter. These parameters, together with the atmospheric and polar motion corrections, enable precise prediction of the instantaneous values of the acceleration of free fall required by the WB experiment with an accuracy reaching 5 μGal. In addition, repeated precise levelling has been carried out to monitor the stability of the WB pillar. Altogether 24 institutes with 22 absolute gravimeters and 9 relative gravimeters participated in the ICAG/RGC campaign. Accurate absolute and relative gravity measurements as well as precision levelling measurements were performed on the micro-gravity 3D-grid at the BIPM.
The 2009 comparison was the first to be organized as a Comité International des Poids et Mesures (CIPM) metrological Key Comparison under the CIPM MRA (Mutual Recognition Arrangement), which means that the result will be officially recognized by the governmental organizations responsible. As a consequence, the relative gravimeters employed were carefully selected and the measurement schedules were rigorously enforced compared with earlier campaigns. Thus the quality of the RGC2009 and the determination of the BIPM local gravity network were improved.
After 30 years and eight successive ICAGs, the BIPM has decided to transfer its role to the national metrological institutes, although the CIPM will continue to organize the key comparison as ICAGs. The background to the RGC2009, and the organization, data processing and final results of the gravity and vertical gravity gradients, are presented in this paper. This report is more detailed than previous final reports of the RGCs.Numéro de notice : A2012-734 Affiliation des auteurs : IGN+Ext (2012-2019) Thématique : POSITIONNEMENT Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1088/0026-1394/49/1/014 Date de publication en ligne : 07/12/2011 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1088/0026-1394/49/1/014 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=91453

[Termes IGN] traitement de donnéesRésumé : (auteur) Since the 1st International Comparison of Absolute Gravimeters (ICAG) and accompanying Relative Gravity Campaign (RGC) held at the BIPM in 1981, repeated ICAG-RGCs have been organized every four years. A total of 19 absolute gravimeters (AG) and 15 relative gravimeters (RG) participated in the 7th ICAG-RGC, which took place in 2005. Co-located absolute and relative gravity measurements as well as precision levelling measurements were carried out. The final version of the absolute g values of the 7th ICAG has been officially released recently. This paper is the final report of the 7th RGC and replaces the preliminary results published earlier. It covers the organization of the RGC and the data processing, analyses RG behaviour, computes g, δg and OAG (offset of AG) and discusses their uncertainties. In preparation for the BIPM key comparison ICAG-2009, a standard data-processing procedure has been developed and installed in the BIPM ICAG-RGC software package, GraviSoft. This was used for the final data processing.
