[Termes IGN] Triangulated Irregular NetworkRésumé : (Auteur) Urban lidar data are advantageous for capturing the terrain surface of built-up areas, which can be directly used to provide digital surface models. Cloud points are classified into ground points to obtain digital terrain models. This study proposes a method to improve the progressive triangulated irregular network (TIN ) densification method using a TIN connection analysis algorithm, namely, connection analysis via slope analysis. The proposed method comprises five steps: selection of seed points, connection and slope analysis, increasing the seed points, construction of the TIN model of the seed points, and an iterative construction of the final TIN. Seven data sets from the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing Working Group are used to test whether the proposed method can preserve discontinuities of landscapes and reduce omission and total errors by an average of 9% and 5%, respectively; achieving such results can reduce the amount of workload required for result modification during posttreatment, thus decreasing costs. [Vedettes matières IGN] CartologieRésumé : (auteur) Cartography has undergone great changes in the last 40 years. Many web platforms and location-based services are offering increasing opportunities, paper maps have been largely supplemented by multimedia and digital maps, and spatial databases. The definition of a map has changed throughout history and the differences in their definitions are presented. This paper aims for new central cartographic definitions, corresponding to contemporary cartographic development after presenting the current situation of the topic. Definitions of cartographic mapping, cartography and cartographer are proposed, as well as a new definition of the map. All they are made on the base of logical analyses including different types of maps from traditional and real to virtual, 3D, animation, and digital. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (auteur) This paper presents an automated topographic feature lines detection method that directly extracts 3D vector topographic feature lines from terrain point cloud. First, signed surface variation (SSV) is introduced to extract the potential feature points. Secondly, the potential feature points are segmented to different clusters by combining region growing segmentation and conditional Euclidean clustering. In order to extract feature points, the potential feature points in each cluster are iteratively thinned using a HC-Laplacian smoothing method with SSV weighted taken into account. Besides, SSV-based and elevation-based simple rules are added for accelerating this thinning process. Finally, the feature lines are obtained by constructing the minimum spanning tree of the extracted feature points. By comparing with manually digitized reference lines, the correctness and the completeness of extracted results are about 80% or even higher, which are much higher than those extracted by D8 algorithm.
