[Termes IGN] formationRésumé : (auteur) Geographical data and analyses are a useful asset in several domains of education and research including geography, history, urbanism or environmental science, amongst others, from primary school to higher education and life-long learning. In the specific context of Europe, as more and more data (including geographic data) becomes open for all, it is crucial to ensure these users have the capacity to make the most of the wealth of this data.
Reciprocally, from the perspective of data providers, education and research are particularly important application domains. They have the ability to link knowledge (production or dissemination) with data and adopt critical perspectives on this data.
In this context, a half-day workshop was organised by EuroSDR during the 2022 conference of the Association of Geographical Information Laboratories in Europe (AGILE). It focussed on current experiences developed by EuroSDR members, mainly at national mapping agencies, as well as proposals stemming from AGILE research communities, to share experiences and visions on this topic. It also targeted possible synergies to interconnect existing approaches, usually national, and achieve crossnational solutions, in Europe and beyond.Numéro de notice : 17756 Affiliation des auteurs : IGN+Ext (2020- ) Thématique : GEOMATIQUE Nature : Actes DOI : sans En ligne : http://www.eurosdr.net/sites/default/files/uploaded_files/ws-report_geodatatools [...] Format de la ressource électronique : URL Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=103187 Initiatives for Providing Data and Tools for Research and Education: EuroSDR survey / Bénédicte Bucher (2020)

[Termes IGN] urbanismeRésumé : (auteur) Geographical data and analysis are a key asset in different domains of education, from primary school to high education and life-long learning, and of research like geography, history, urbanism or environmental science, among others. Engaging with these user communities is part of the mission of many EuroSDR members. It is also a precious investment to improve data value and reusability. Firstly, the education community can give relevant feedback on the data usability from their pedagogical perspectives, scientific users can comment on quality documentation as they need to adopt a critical perspective on results obtained with data and students learn to use such complex data before they go into the work force where they may promote their usage. Second, all these users can help data providers investigate the design of new products to answer emerging needs. Three commission chairs of EuroSDR (Commission 4 Information usage, Commission 5 Business models and operations and Commission 6 Knowledge transfer) launched a survey on the provision of data and tools for research and education purposes on 13th May 2019. The objective of the survey was to study existing initiatives in terms of practices and projects at EuroSDR organizations to provide data and tools to pupils, students, teachers, and scientists for research and/or education purposes. A questionnaire was sent to all the delegates of EuroSDR who represent national mapping and cadastral agencies (NMCAs). The respondents were asked to describe their potential initiatives by using a standardized template format, which is in the Annexe 1 of this report. The respondents could describe as many initiatives as relevant for the provision of their data and tools. The deadline was set for 1st July 2019. The answers were compiled and reported in a first draft. As the answer rate was rather low, the draft report was circulated in Spring 2020 again. The first section of this report presents an overview of the results obtained from this survey and the next section presents them more in details using the same structure as the questions of the template. [Termes IGN] qualité des donnéesRésumé : (auteur) To date, numerous automatic building detection methods using lidar data have been developed. However, in most cases the parameters used for the evaluation of the results are not specified, accuracy assessment results cannot be readily compared or no result evaluation is performed at all. In this study, accuracy assessment aspects have been analysed in order to find a generally applicable approach for the comparison of building outline extraction methods. An area-based evaluation of accuracy has been selected as the most suitable due to its robustness, predictability and comparability between datasets. This assessment can be further supplemented with both object- and area-based evaluations, procured solely with those buildings that were classified as true positives, in order to interpret the extraction results in more detail. In cases where a reference dataset of superior quality (such as low-altitude aerial imagery) is available, an absolute accuracy evaluation is also relevant. [Termes IGN] superposition d'imagesRésumé : (auteur) This report deals with research work how digital terrain models can automatically be checked and improved. Test material consisting of three DTMs of different acquisition methods has been prepared, and six research groups applied their methods with the delivered DTMs. The provided imagery is suitable for the production of orthoimages and serves also as auxiliary material for the checking and improving of DTMs. The results of the participants were analyzed by means of accurate reference material with regard to accuracy. Furthermore, the completeness and degree of automation at the
different methods have been evaluated. The report describes in detail the delivered test material, the characteristics of the different methods, the strategy in the evaluation including the applied accuracy measures. The improving of DTMs is
also possible to a large extent. A thematic map can give a quick overview where additional measurements are required. The applied methods are compared by means of the accuracy measures derived both from the delivered material and from the accurate reference data of the pilot centre. One method, which derives correction for the delivered DTM by means of parallaxes between two overlapping orthoimages, was applied to all test areas and achieved the best results. The three DTMs
could be tested with an accuracy of σh=0.015% of the flying height. Proposals for future practical work and further investigations are given. The results of this investigation will also be disseminated in educational seminars and e-learning courses of the EuroSDR. The contributions of the participating research groups are attached in the appendix of the report.
