[Termes IGN] texture d'imageRésumé : (auteur) High resolution GIS data describing forests is an important knowledge, both for mapping and for environmental monitoring purposes. The extraction of such information out of imagery consists in a detection of woody areas followed by a thematic enrichment in forested areas, including a discrimination between evergreen, deciduous and mixt plantings. This paper attempts to automatize these photo-interpretation tasks. It particularly emphasizes on the determination of the most suitable input data to cope with these two classification problems. Two kinds of optical images have indeed been used: RapidEye data and 50cm ground resolution aerial ortho-images. Aerial data provided very high resolution information and texture indices, whereas RapidEye data brought additional radiometric information, and especially a red-edge channel. It has then been shown that texture information from aerial 50cm images was a key information for the woody area detection and that the red-edge band of RapidEye data appeared to be useful to discriminate between evergreen and deciduous plantings. [Termes IGN] villeRésumé : (auteur) During last decade, needs for high resolution land cover data have been growing. Such knowledge is namely often required in environment monitoring studies. Thus, to answer these needs, national mapping or environment agencies, in many countries, have undertaken the production of such large scale national land cover database. Nevertheless, these databases provide a general classification and may not suit some specific (often new) applications requiring a semantic or geometric finer level of details. That is to say that, on one hand, additional land cover classes should sometimes be specified, whereas, on the other hand, some existing classes should be delineated at a finer level.
More particularly, in urban areas, knowledge concerning very high resolution land cover and especially material classification are necessary for several city modelling applications. Most of these applications are still experimental scientific ones in various fields such as micro-meteorology, hydrology, pollutants flow monitoring and ground perviousness monitoring. Thus, knowledge concerning the roofing materials or the different kinds of ground areas (pervious, vegetated, impervious…) are required. Airborne remote sensing techniques appear to be convenient for providing such information at a large scale since no existing map contains such information. However, remote sensing imagery of urban environments from airborne acquisitions namely still remains a major scientific issue, since on one hand, urban areas are characterized by a high variety of materials, and on the other hand, results provided by most of the traditional processing methods based on usual red-green-blue-near infrared multispectral images remain limited for such applications. A possible way to improve classification results is to enhance the imagery spectral resolution using superspectral or hyperspectral imagery.
Thus, the present experiments are part of a work aiming at designing a future superspectral camera system dedicated to high resolution urban land cover classification applications, and especially material mapping. The choice of optimal band sets will here be processed from a set of airborne hyperspectral data.
A data acquisition campaign named UMBRA has recently been carried out thanks to the French collaboration of IGN and ONERA. Data have been captured over two French cities chosen for their difference in building architecture, urbanization planning and their variety in urban material. Airborne images have been acquired simultaneously by multispectral and hyperspectral cameras with a ground sampling distance ranging from 0.12m for multispectral to 1.6m for hyperspectral in the SWIR channels. The images were radiometrically and geometrically calibrated and have a noticeable low signal-to-noise ratio.
The first urban land cover / material classification results obtained from this new reference data set will be presented in this paper.Numéro de notice : C2013-043 Affiliation des auteurs : LASTIG MATIS+Ext (2012-2019) Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Communication nature-HAL : ComSansActesPubliés-Unpublished DOI : sans Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=80250 Documents numériques

[Termes IGN] occupation du solRésumé : (auteur) Submetric satellite imagery (Pleiades, GeoEye) offers advantages for map update purposes, e.g. an interesting ground resolution, a good reactivity and the ability to capture wide areas. Experiments on the use of such stereoscopic images for 2D change detection among building objects of GIS topographic database are presented in this paper. Two approaches have been tested. The first one extracts land cover from satellite ortho-images and additional information (correlation DSM-DTM, database) and compares building objects of this classification to those of the database. The second one creates a pseudo-DSM from height information of database building objects combined with a DTM and compares it to a correlation DSM computed from satellite images. Obtained results are quite encouraging even if the correctness rate remains too low for an operational use. [Termes IGN] zone urbaine denseRésumé : (Auteur) Airborne lidar systems have become a source for the acquisition of elevation data. They provide georeferenced, irregularly distributed 3D point clouds of high altimetric accuracy. Moreover, these systems can provide for a single laser pulse, multiple returns or echoes, which correspond to different illuminated objects. In addition to multi-echo laser scanners, full-waveform systems are able to record 1D signals representing a train of echoes caused by reflections at different targets. These systems provide more information about the structure and the physical characteristics of the targets. Many approaches have been developed, for urban mapping, based on aerial lidar solely or combined with multispectral image data. However, they have not assessed the importance of input features. In this paper, we focus on a multi-source framework using aerial lidar (multi-echo and full waveform) and aerial multispectral image data. We aim to study the feature relevance for dense urban scenes. The Random Forests algorithm is chosen as a classifier: it runs efficiently on large datasets, and provides measures of feature importance for each class. The margin theory is used as a confidence measure of the classifier, and to confirm the relevance of input features for urban classification. The quantitative results confirm the importance of the joint use of optical multispectral and lidar data. Moreover, the relevance of full-waveform lidar features is demonstrated for building and vegetation area discrimination.
