[Termes IGN] qualité des donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) This paper describes a method for sampling bidirectional reflectance information from multiangular airborne images. The method uses high resolution surface models to determinate the location of the imaged point on the ground and the orientation of the measured surface fragment. Since natural surfaces scatter incident radiation anisotropically, viewing and illumination conditions play a critical role in the interpretation of remotely sensed images. Thus, directionally defined reflectance data are needed for the modelling and correction of bidirectional effects on airborne optical images. Two test sites were imaged with a wide range of viewing azimuth angles at two different times. A high resolution HRSC-A stereo camera was used for image acquisition. Algorithms were implemented to reconstruct the image acquisition and retrieve the image samples from the HRSC-A image data. Combined with GPS and INS data, automatically derived high resolution digital surface models, including vegetation canopies, houses, etc., were used to determine the viewing and illumination geometry on the target surface. The brightness of a sample point was recorded as a measure for reflectance. A large number of directionally defined samples and a wide angular range of sample geometry were obtained. The images were first classified. Sampled reflectance data were verified by investigating the bidirectional reflectance of five agricultural and forest targets. Errors affecting the data quality, such as angular uncertainty, were studied. The multiangular image data, the developed sampling methods and the obtained bidirectional dataset proved to be applicable in investigations of bidirectional reflectance effects of natural targets. Airborne imagery combined with high resolution digital surface models permit extensive investigation of the bidirectional reflectance of a wide range of natural objects and large habitats. [Termes IGN] réflectanceRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a numerical method for estimating the accuracy of field and laboratory measurements of bidirectional reflectance. After a detailed analysis of the measuring instrument and data acquisition process, the variables which determine the accuracy of the output are identified, and different techniques for laboratory and field spectrometry are compared. The results of the analysis show how both the measuring instrument itself, and the measuring technique in field experiments determine the accuracy of experimental data. [Termes IGN] qualité d'imageIndex. décimale : 33.50 Orthophotographie, orthoimage Résumé : (Auteur) The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Finland (MAF) initiated a project to develop a countrywide digital orthophoto database in spring 1996. The orthophotos are to be utilized in a system controlling agricultural subsidies. Digital orthophotos covering the whole of Finland (land area 340 000 km) were produced during 1996-1997. The duration of the project was 18 months, including planning, scanning and orthorectification. The Finnish Geodetic Institute (FGI) functioned as an expert and quality control consultant in the project. In this publication the quality specifications and control procedures used in scanning and orthophoto production are given, and geometric and visual quality of the orthophotos produced are evaluated. Quality control was divided into process design, on-line quality control and acceptance sampling. The quality of the orthophotos was investigated in the field areas using a 4%-sample. The root mean square (RMS) point error is less than 1.6 m in the main part of the country, and in most parts of the country the quality requirement for 2.5 m is fulfilled. Interior accuracy is clearly better. Visual quality of the orthophotos, produced from 1:60 000 aerial photographs, is sufficient for control purposes. Furthermore, theoretical considerations on the quality of the digital orthophotos are given.
