[Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) We work on automating the generalisation of topographic databases, in order to produce topographic maps. We use an agent-oriented approach: the geographic features (roads, rivers, buildings etc.) are modelled as autonomous agents, as it has previously been done within the European AGENT project. To handle rural areas, our approach then consists in letting these agents interact so that each of them either finds its new place and geometric representation or eliminates itself, so that the whole fits to the generalisation specifications. For that, our agents are provided with capacities of perception of their spatial environment, as well as capacities of dialoguing with the surrounding agents. This approach has been implemented and tested on real subsets of data. In this paper we describe the system. Some encouraging results are also presented and discussed. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) This paper proposes a methodology to assess the quality of generalisation. Generalisation consists in representing in a simplified way a geographic space, according to the scale and to the objectives of the map. The automation of this process makes the derivation of data easier, but the data quality of the results is often not evaluated. This paper deals with the definition of generalisation evolution reference and of an assessment model. A generalisation evolution reference is the definition of the expected evolution of a geographical feature property during generalisation. The assessment model is based on (1) a data characterisation in their initial and final state at different level of analysis (micro and meso), (2) a data quality assessment from the comparison of the two previous characterisations and (3) the aggregation of the various assessment results to summarise data quality. The assessment algorithm has been implemented and the method has been tested to assess the generalisation of a small urban area. A visualisation tool of assessment results has been developed to validate the generalisation evaluation. Results are presented and discussed at the end of the paper. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) IGN (the French National Mapping Agency)is working on a new production line to derive from a reference database a new 1:100.000 scaled map. The generalisation process designed has taken advantages from the last research in generalisation avialable with the multi-agent systems and elastic beams displacement algorithms. This paper reports on choices made by the Carto2001 project to design a production line using automated cartographic generalisation. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) Recent models and systems of generalisation allow to produce new representations of geographical information according to generalisation constraints. One of the shortcomings is that they still can not be tuned easily according to different user needs. In the present paper, we propose an implemented system made of web interface and specific modelling and engine that proposes a user with a set of already generalised objects used to identify his needs. The principle is to create a sample data base that contains the information related to the constraints used to obtain a large set of different types of generalisation. These samples are proposed to the user who chooses the solutions that look like what he is looking for. Behind the interface, the system analyses the answers to gradually converge towards the optimal final parameter values, if possible. Natural language has been added for the first step of the query to being more flexibility and to allow some qualitative reaction of the user (such as 'bigger' or 'with less details'). As a first try the work has been limited to the generalisation of buildings but the data modelling has been conceived in a generic way to allow the extension to other types of objects. [Termes IGN] orientationRésumé : (Auteur) This paper deals with the automation of the cartographic generalisation and proposes a new measure of the orientation of a building. The description of this characteristic is a complex issue, as if the computing of orientation is relatively clear for a segment or a line, this is not the case for a polygon. Thus, existing measures of orientation are briefly reviewed. Our measure is inspired by the measure of building orientation of walls, modulo . The proposed modification is an adaptation of this measure modulo /2, associated with a confidence indicator on it, and is called Wall statistical weighting. We show that this new measure can be combined with existing ones to better describe and generalise buildings.
