[Termes IGN] texture d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) Based on the detection of storm losses in Swiss alpine forest areas, two different digital classification approaches were compared. In contrast to the pixel based classification we investigated an object-oriented classification procedure. The eCognition software package of Definiens offers this possibility. The comparison was performed for images with different spatial resolution - very high resolution images of IKONOS, and images of SPOT in the sharpened mode. The evaluation of the IKONOS image indicated a significantly higher accuracy for the object-oriented classification approach than for the pixel-based method. The eCognition software handles the high level of detail and the associated high texture better than the pixelbased parallelepiped-algorithm. The quality of the pixel-based approach, which takes into account only the spectral information and some derived data-products is limited for very high resolution images. The classification of the SPOT presented approximately the same results for both methods. [Termes IGN] spectroradiomètreRésumé : (Auteur) The main troubles affecting the application of remote sensing are connected with the radiometric calibration of the sensor signal as well as with the physical parameters to be used for the radiative transfer modelling through the atmosphere. In order to overcome these problems, we are developing two new instruments to be used for in-field measurements devoted to the validation of remotely sensed hyperspectral images. The main instrument is a solar spectro-irradiometer, operated in the imaging-spectrometer mode, that samples the impinging irradiance with 7 nm of spectral resolution and a digitalisation accuracy of 10 bit. The 256 independent samples held in the measured spectrum are acquired with a sampling step of about 3.0 nm and cover the range from 200 nm up to 950 nm of wavelength. From this original instrument we have also derived a spectro-radiometer having similar spectral characteristics. In this paper, we discuss the development of the main common spectrometer and describe the experimental activity carried out for its calibration. Preliminary experimental data are shown and thoroughly analysed. [Termes IGN] ventRésumé : (Auteur) In the framework of the current development of offshore wind energy exploitation, an accurate evaluation of the wind potential is crucial for sitting windmills. Nowadays, the resource is evaluated from discrete measurements, which must be extrapolated in order to provide a global wind resource map. But in this case, local conditions and variations of wind are not expressed. This paper deals with a method that enables to obtain spatially accurate wind maps from ERS2 SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) images using advanced signal processing techniques. Concerning the temporal accuracy, the poor repetitiveness of data from ERS SAR sensor has been considered. Future prospects are presented, that concerns the design of a data fusion algorithm. This work is done in the framework of our study, which aims at designing a method to obtain spatially and temporally accurate wind statistics over a given area of interest. [Termes IGN] tempêteRésumé : (Auteur) The states of Honduras, Nicaragua, and EI Salvador have been toughly hit by the "Mitch" hurricane in the first days of November 1998. The extent of damages due to this hurricane, as well as their impact upon local economy were exceptional. In this framework, a remote sensing project was immediately initiated to provide a large scale evaluation of the damages suffered by the three countries. To reach this objective, new remote sensing products called TmDYNAMICRADAR and TmIDYNAMICOPTICAL products have been designed. These products are, based on using, either radar satellite images, or optical/radar satellite data fusion. The most efficient techniques have been applied to produce these products, thus enabling change detection at a very fine spatial scale (from 20 meters x 20 meters to 10 meters x 10 meters). Project schedule and operations, as well as the validation of its products are reported in this article.
