Over the north and south islands of New Zealand we couple a simple vegetation process based model 3PG (Predicting Physiological Principals of Growth) with constraints provided by estimates of the fraction of photosynthetically absorbed radiation (JPAR) derived from the SPOT 4 satellite. Model predictions of national forest and scrub above ground Net Primary productivity (NPPA) were compared to estimated values derived from previously published values at both individual plot locations and regions, stratified by vegetation type.
Comparison of the field estimated fraction of fPAR values across the range of vegetation types in the North and South Islands and SPOT 4 VEGETATION NDVI indices indicated the imagery explained 83% of the variation in fPAR. The 3PG predictions coupled with remote sensing observations of above ground stand NPPA for 6 individual sites across both islands correlated well (adjusted r2=0.80, pNuméro de notice : A2003-047 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : FORET/IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1080/10106040208542249 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1080/10106040208542249 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=22344

In this study, hyperspectral data were collected for 10 land cover types with in situ measurement and leaves of 25 subtropical tree species in laboratory measurement within the 400 900 rim spectral regions in 689 bands. These bands were subsequently filtered to 138 bands for data analysis. Principal components analysis was applied to explore the inherent data dimensions. It was found that unlike most broadband sensors from which only two dimensions, brightness and greenness, could be extracted, hyperspectral data provided additional dimensions particularly along the red edge that could help identify different land covers as well as tree species. The results of tree identification using principal components analysis were comparable to those using the raw spectral bands. Hyperspectral data analysis should be a valuable tool for environmental monitoring in the tropical and subtropical environment where a large variety of flora and habitats is found. [Termes IGN] volcanRésumé : (Auteur) This study presents two approaches of textural classification on a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) ERS-2 image, with the aim of the location of the flows of lava and of the serviced zones around the volcanic site of the Mountain Cameroon. The first approach is a method of progressive supervised classification, where a single class is extracted at the same moment, by using 7 parameters of texture stemming from the run length method. Three classes of texture were extracted by this method and the images from the three classes were merged by the red green blue coloured composition to produce the final map. For purposes of comparison, a not supervised classification was applied to the same image. The applied not supervised classification uses parameters of texture stemming from the co-occurrence matrix method, and it lays on the detection of the peaks of a histogram. The results obtained by the two methods are coherent, and the validation of the results was made by observations during a recent mission on the site of study.
