[Termes IGN] vue perspectiveRésumé : (Auteur) The Intensity Hue Saturation (IHS) transformation is used to integrate the high spectral resolution, provided by hyperspectral data (Airborne Visible Infrared Imaging Spectrometer, AVIRIS), and the surface texture information, derived from radar data (Topographic Synthetic Aperture Radar, TOPSAR), into a single image of an urban area. This transformed image is superimposed on the Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data derived from TOPSAR data to create a 3D perspective view. The ambiguity of several urban land cover types is resolved to a larger degree using the higher spectral and spatial resolutions and the synergistic visual content provided by the fused image in a 3D perspective. For urban areas that are at risk from geological hazards (e.g., avalanches, mudflows, and debris flows), the fused image provides a costeffective product, rich in the information necessary for assessment and mitigation of these hazards. [Termes IGN] température de surfaceRésumé : (Auteur) Multiple satellite sensors are used to analyze physical processes that determine energy fluxes and their interaction at the urban surface. The study is based on summertime microclimate analyses of the Los Angeles and Paris metropolises. The method consists of deriving some parameters governing the surface heat fluxes, constructing statistics of thermal infrared images, and using a GIS to combine them with a landcover classification from SPOTHRV multispectral images, and with data from intensive insitu experiments. The average images reveal spatial and temporal variations of land surface temperature (LST), and distinct microclimatic patterns. The combined interpretation of the statistics images and of the landcover classification shows: (i) the effect of surface physical properties, especially in downtown business and industrial districts that display heatislands larger than 7°C; (ii) the temperating influence of water; (iii) the negative correlation between afternoon land surface temperature and normalized vegetation index, which confirms the cooling effect of urban parks; (iv) the correlation between variations of surface temperature and ozone concentration at diurnal and longer time scales. [Termes IGN] télédétection en hyperfréquenceRésumé : (Auteur) This paper deals with the automatic extraction of building outlines using a pair of optical and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. The aim is to define areas of interest for building height reconstruction in radargrammetric or interferometric applications. Since high resolution optical satellite images are now easily available, such methods merging SAR and optical information could be useful to improve 3D SAR reconstruction (the optical image giving only information on the scene organization). Both SAR and optical data bring complementary information about the building presence and shape. The proposed method is divided into two main steps : first, extraction of partial potential building footprints on the SAR image, and then shape detection on the optical one using the previously extracted primitives (lines). Two methods of shape detection have been developed, the simplest one finding the "best" rectangular shape and the second one searching for a more complicated shape in case of failure of the first one. Results for an industrial area acquired with two incidence angles for the SAR image are presented and analyzed. [Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (Auteur) The urban environment is characterized by an intense multifunctional use of available spaces, where the preservation of open green spaces is of special importance. For this purpose, areawide urban biotope mapping based on CIR aerial photographs has been carried out for the large cities in Germany during the last 10 years. Because of dynamic urban development and high mapping costs, the municipal authorities are interested in effective methods for mapping urban surface cover types, which can be used for evaluation of ecological conditions in urban structures and supporting updates of biotope maps. Against this background, airborne hyperspectral remote sensing data of the DAIS 7915 instrument have been analyzed for a test site in the city of Dresden (Germany) with regard to their potential for automated materialoriented identification of urban surface cover types. Previous investigations have shown that the high spectral and spatial variabilities of these data require the development of special methods, which are capable of dealing with the resulting mixedpixel problem in its specific characteristics in urban areas. Earlier, methodological developments led to an approach based on a combination of spectral classification and pixeloriented unmixing techniques to facilitate sensible endmember selection based on the reflective bands of the DAIS instrument. This approach is now extended by a shapebased classification technique including the thermal bands of the DAIS instrument to improve the detection of buildings during the process of identifying seedling pixels, which represent the starting points for linear spectral unmixing. This new approach increases the reliability of differentiation between buildings and open spaces, leading to more accurate results for the spatial distribution of surface cover types. Thus, the new approach significantly enhances the exploitation of the information potential of the hyperspectral DAIS 7915 data for an areawide identification of urban surface cover types. [Termes IGN] segmentation d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) The automatic reconstruction of buildings for the generation of city models is of great interest for different tasks. Threedimensional information can be directly obtained from both, laser (LIDAR) and radar (InSAR) measurements. The features of both sensors are compared. The data acquisition by SAR is described, with emphasis on the special properties of the interferometric SAR principle. A segmentation approach for building reconstruction is proposed. The results show that building reconstruction is possible from InSAR, but the achievable level of detail cannot compete with LIDAR. The main source of limitation is the inherent sidelooking scene illumination of SAR, giving rise to disturbing phenomena interfering with often large parts of the scene. Geometric constraints for the location and size of such problem areas are derived. To identify areas of unreliable data in SAR images of a builtup area, corresponding elevation data are analysed. The impact of the phenomena layover, shadow and dominant scattering at building locations is considered. For this task, a hybrid elevation reference is required. The buildings and the surrounding ground are represented as CAD planes. Natural objects like trees and bushes remain in the raster representation.
