[Termes IGN] orientation du capteurRésumé : (Auteur) Though the ISPRS has had standardization on its agenda for a long time the progress was slow and the output of completed document is still limited. The reasons are manifold: lack of awareness of standardization, necessary alignment with the standardization of geographic information done by the ISO/TC 211, emerging of new sensors while standardization work was ongoing, and the lack of technical consensus on many details such as data formats. Initiated by EuroSDR and ISPRS, the EuroCOW workshop in January 2006 brought experts together who represented the leading edge of the new generation of airborne imaging sensors. This article is intended to be a starting point for the necessary discussion about an orientation and calibration standard that fulfills modern requirements. Three authors give their views on the topic and point to essential components of a standard in the future. [Termes IGN] image KompsatRésumé : (Auteur) KARI has prepared Calibration and Validation activities for the KOMPSAT-2 (KOrea Multi-Purpose SATellite-2) MSC data that will be launched at the middle of this year. Firstly, we divided the Cal/Val activities of it to four pans, Spatial, Spectral, Radiometric and Geometric, and defined the detailed Cal/Val parameters from them. Secondly, Cal/Val targets have been defined and manufactured for the role of them. Thirdly, we have made the plan and the procedure for the Cal/Val parameters, developed the codes for them, studied more detailed method to do them, and trained the Cal/Val activities using the foreign satellite image data by ourselves. KARI has been now setting up the KOMPSAT-2 LEOP plan with the Cal/Val activities, and probably will finish the EOP Cal/Val activities for the KOMPSAT-2 MSC data by the end of this year. [Termes IGN] étalonnage spectralRésumé : (Auteur) Digital cameras have spectral and radiometric properties superior to analogue film cameras. Due to its radiometrically stable construction, the ADS40 sensor is capable of making images for cartography as well as remote sensing applications. For the increased size of current projects, for sensor fusion, as well as for change detection purposes it is necessary to produce comparable images for different flight conditions (weather, camera system, etc.). This is not possible with classical film cameras since comparable images require the absolute radiometric calibration of the imaging system, before atmospheric correction, reflectance calibration and BRDF correction can take place. The methods for satellite laboratory calibration can be also used for digital airborne cameras. A laboratory calibration of the ADS40 is made with a calibrated integrating sphere in order to determine dark signal, lens falloff, and radiometric gain for each sensor line. For the ADS40 a linear radiometric model is sufficiently accurate. The knowledge of the system spectral response allows a more accurate calculation of the radiometric calibration coefficients and is a check for system integrity. In order to provide a regional camera service, radiometric calibration facilities are being established on several service sites of the world. [Termes IGN] satellite agileRésumé : (Auteur) Pleiades is a high-resolution optical Earth observation system developed by the French National Space Agency CNES, for civilian and militarian users. It will operate in 2008-2009 two agile satellites with very high geometric accuracy since latest budgets show that the system could reach, after in-flight commissioning, an absolute location performance better than the current Pleiades specifications set at 12m for 90% of images. Given this level of accuracy, the geometric calibration needs the use of a very high planimetric and altimetric accurate reference data which is obtained with heavy and costly means: generally, only one or two areas are equipped, and complete calibration could take several months after launch. In order to gain time, a first "coarse" calibration will be performed using ground control points and an accurate physical model of the instrument. This first step should allow the system to reach its specifications more quickly. This paper presents the global methodology planned to calibrate the geometric location model. It also highlight the need of an accurate GCP data base for this treatment and for periodic assessment of the location budget. [Termes IGN] Multi-Angle Imaging SpectroradiometerRésumé : (Auteur) This paper focuses on the validation aspect of the geometric calibration approach as implemented for the Multi-angle Imaging SpectroRadiometer (MISR), a part of the payload for NASA's Terra spacecraft. The MISR instrument, launched in December 1999, continuously acquires a systematic, global, multi-angle imagery in reflected sunlight in order to support and improve studies of-Earth's ecology and climate. Moderate-resolution data acquired with a unique configuration of nine fixed pushbroom cameras need to be autonomously georectified prior to use in subsequent scientific retrievals. A robust data production algorithm is based on in-flight generated calibration datasets produced at the beginning of the mission and operationally validated in the first two years. However, in order to maintain required subpixel co-registration accuracies, globally and throughout the life of the mission, data production operations are complemented with a quality monitoring system. This system has been critical in: 1) resolving impact issues that georectification quality may have on subsequent retrievals, 2) providing bases for decisions regarding updates of the calibration datasets and production algorithm, and 3) evaluating and summarizing overall pointing stability and georectification performance. With the series of quality investigations focusing on the georectification requirements, it was determined that the pointing stability of one of the cameras is not as good as the other eight cameras. As a result, the data production algorithm has been updated to assure uniform georectification and co-registration performance prior to processing a final data collection for the entire life of the mission. Presented in this paper will be: an overview of the calibration approach and related quality monitoring system, operational results prior to and after the final implementation and the global summaries on geospatial data accuracies.
