[Termes IGN] série temporelleRésumé : (Auteur) We sketch the evolution of station trajectory models used in crustal motion geodesy over the last several decades, and describe some recent generalizations of these models that allow geodesists and geophysicists to parameterize accelerating patterns of displacement in general, and postseismic transient deformation in particular. Modern trajectory models are composed of three sub-models that represent secular trends, annual oscillations, and instantaneous jumps in coordinate time series. Traditionally the trend model invoked constant station velocity. This can be generalized by assuming that position is a polynomial function of time. The trajectory model can also be augmented as needed, by including one or more logarithmic transients in order to account for typical multi-year patterns of postseismic transient motion. Many geodetic and geophysical research groups are using general classes of trajectory model to characterize their crustal displacement time series, but few if any of them are using these trajectory models to define and realize the terrestrial reference frames (RFs) in which their time series are expressed. We describe a global GPS reanalysis program in which we use two general classes of trajectory model, tuned on a station by station basis. We define the network trajectory model as the set of station trajectory models encompassing every station in the network. We use the network trajectory model from the each global analysis to assign prior position estimates for the next round of GPS data processing. We allow our daily orbital solutions to relax so as to maintain their consistency with the network polyhedron. After several iterations we produce GPS time series expressed in a RF similar to, but not identical with ITRF2008. We find that each iteration produces an improvement in the daily repeatability of our global time series and in the predictive power of our trajectory models. [Termes IGN] vapeur d'eauRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, we propose a novel Bayesian procedure to update the probability distribution for a set of possible atmospheric states, once ground measures of temperature, pressure, humidity, and tropospheric delay of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals are made. It is based on a representative dataset of matching pairs of reanalysis atmospheric states and ground measures. By applying the basic rules of probability theory and logic inference, a computable expression for the conditional probability of the states given the measures is found. This allows us to select the most plausible atmospheric conditions, consistent with ground observations. Compared with more conventional techniques, the proposed approach has the advantage of always giving a result, even if not all the measures are available. Moreover, it provides the probability distributions of the retrieved quantities, which collapse to the corresponding prior distributions in the worst case of no significant measures. In any case, the final uncertainties are fully quantified, as needed for many meteorological applications, including data assimilation and ensemble forecasts for a numerical weather model. In addition to the theoretical details, a practical example of operational application, using a ten-year dataset on a Mediterranean test site, is also presented. The most probable retrieved atmospheric profiles of water vapor and temperature, as well as the corresponding values of precipitable water, are compared with balloon measurements on such a test site, showing good agreement and a significant improvement when the GNSS delay measure is added. In particular, the precipitable water retrieval turns out at least as accurate as that obtained with conventional approaches. [Termes IGN] réseau géodésiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Traditional geodetic network optimization deals with static and discrete control points. The modern space geodetic network is, on the other hand, composed of moving control points in space (satellites) and on the Earth (ground stations). The network configuration composed of these facilities is essentially dynamic and continuous. Moreover, besides the position parameter which needs to be estimated, other geophysical information or signals can also be extracted from the continuous observations. The dynamic (continuous) configuration of the space network determines whether a particular frequency of signals can be identified by this system. In this paper, we employ the functional analysis and graph theory to study the dynamic configuration of space geodetic networks, and mainly focus on the optimal estimation of the position and clock-offset parameters. The principle of the D-optimization is introduced in the Hilbert space after the concept of the traditional discrete configuration is generalized from the finite space to the infinite space. It shows that the D-optimization developed in the discrete optimization is still valid in the dynamic configuration optimization, and this is attributed to the natural generalization of least squares from the Euclidean space to the Hilbert space. Then, we introduce the principle of D-optimality invariance under the combination operation and rotation operation, and propose some D-optimal simplex dynamic configurations: (1) (Semi) circular configuration in 2-dimensional space; (2) the D-optimal cone configuration and D-optimal helical configuration which is close to the GPS constellation in 3-dimensional space. The initial design of GPS constellation can be approximately treated as a combination of 24 D-optimal helixes by properly adjusting the ascending node of different satellites to realize a so-called Walker constellation. In the case of estimating the receiver clock-offset parameter, we show that the circular configuration, the symmetrical cone configuration and helical curve configuration are still D-optimal. It shows that the given total observation time determines the optimal frequency (repeatability) of moving known points and vice versa, and one way to improve the repeatability is to increase the rotational speed. Under the Newton’s law of motion, the frequency of satellite motion determines the orbital altitude. Furthermore, we study three kinds of complex dynamic configurations, one of which is the combination of D-optimal cone configurations and a so-called Walker constellation composed of D-optimal helical configuration, the other is the nested cone configuration composed of n cones, and the last is the nested helical configuration composed of n orbital planes. It shows that an effective way to achieve high coverage is to employ the configuration composed of a certain number of moving known points instead of the simplex configuration (such as D-optimal helical configuration), and one can use the D-optimal simplex solutions or D-optimal complex configurations in any combination to achieve powerful configurations with flexile coverage and flexile repeatability. Alternately, how to optimally generate and assess the discrete configurations sampled from the continuous one is discussed. The proposed configuration optimization framework has taken the well-known regular polygons (such as equilateral triangle and quadrangular) in two-dimensional space and regular polyhedrons (regular tetrahedron, cube, regular octahedron, regular icosahedron, or regular dodecahedron) into account. It shows that the conclusions made by the proposed technique are more general and no longer limited by different sampling schemes. By the conditional equation of D-optimal nested helical configuration, the relevance issues of GNSS constellation optimization are solved and some examples are performed by GPS constellation to verify the validation of the newly proposed optimization technique. The proposed technique is potentially helpful in maintenance and quadratic optimization of single GNSS of which the orbital inclination and the orbital altitude change under the precession, as well as in optimally nesting GNSSs to perform global homogeneous coverage of the Earth. [Termes IGN] teneur en vapeur d'eauRésumé : (auteur) Tropospheric delay estimates (tropospheric product) on selected International GNSS Service (IGS) and EUREF Permanent Network (EPN) stations exhibit large information potential for meteorology and climate research. Long time series of integrated precipitable water (IPW) averaged hourly, daily and monthly can serve as climate indicators. As IPW is mostly influenced by global circulation, not surface processes, correlations of IPW with basic meteorological surface parameters have been analysed. Even more revealing are changes in correlation coefficients calculated for monthly periods for different regions. Simple charts of IPW/temperature which can be treated as climatologic diagrams were investigated. Some of these charts have been analysed with some climatologic insight. This form of presenting IPW statistics reveals the variability of seasonal IPW values. IPW clearly represents the diversity of world climates and is a valuable meteorological and climatologic parameter.
