Note de contenu :

In this study, we demonstrate the capability of BDS and the benefit of multi-GNSS for real-time capturing seismic waveforms using the combined high-rate BDS + GPS + GLONASS data collected during the 2017 Mw 6.5 Jiuzhaigou earthquake. For this event, we found that the displacements, derived from BDS precise point positioning (PPP) are better than that of Global Positioning System-only (GPS) results, especially in the east and vertical components with improvements of 43% and 23%. While the velocity waveforms from BDS present a comparable performance with GPS. the multi-GNSS fusion can significantly improve the accuracy by 47%, 55%, and 28% in the east, north, and vertical components compared with GPS-only results. The BDS and multi-GNSS derived displacement waveforms agree quite well with those obtained from integrating the acceleration, with accuracy at the millimeter level. In addition, the theoretical permanent displacement field calculated from a finite-fault slip model is selected as an independent reference, and the differences between GNSS derived permanent displacements and theoretical permanent displacements are mostly less than 1 mm. Therefore, we conclude that the BDS and multi-GNSS fusion can significantly contribute to the real-time capture of accurate seismic waveforms and that it has the potential to benefit for earthquake early warning and rapid geohazard assessment. [Termes IGN] transformation en ondelettesRésumé : (Auteur) Previous studies have proved that commercial, off-the-shelf, geodetic-quality Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers can monitor water level using multipath interferometric characteristics from the sea surface. A Lomb–Scargle periodogram (LSP) is typically used to extract the multipath frequency from the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), which relates to the vertical distance between the antenna phase center and the reflecting surface, and subsequently, estimate sea levels. A wavelet transform can be used to analyze the time series with a nonstationary power at different frequencies, as can be the case for multipath signals. In addition, wavelet transform analysis estimates the local energy and instantaneous frequency of the signal at every epoch, which is beneficial for water-level estimation. Therefore, we attempt to extract the instantaneous multipath frequency using wavelet transform analysis for water leveling with a geodetic GPS receiver. This study analyzed SNR data of GPS L1C from three test sites: the Kachemak Bay site PBAY (AK, USA), the Friday Harbor site SC02 (WA, USA), and the Brest Harbor site BRST (France). These sites are located in different multipath environments, from a rural coastal area to a busy harbor, and they experience different tidal regimes. The results show that the wavelet analysis has potential for the retrieval of sea level heights. For measurement site PBAY the comparison of the results obtained by the wavelet and LSP analysis yield consistency within a few percent. At the other two sites, SC02 and BRST, the agreement is significantly lower. [Termes IGN] variabilitéRésumé : (auteur) This study investigates the means, variability, and trends in integrated water vapour (IWV) from two modern reanalyses (ERA-Interim and MERRA-2) from 1980 to 2016 and ground-based GPS data from 1995 to 2010. It is found that the mean distributions and inter-annual variability in IWV in the reanalyses and GPS are consistent, even in regions of strong gradients. ERA-Interim is shown to exhibit a slight moist bias in the extra-tropics and a slight dry bias in the tropics (both on the order of 0.5 to 1 kg m−2) compared to GPS. ERA-Interim is also generally drier than MERRA-2 over the ocean and within the tropics. Differences in variability and trends are pointed out at a few GPS sites. These differences can be due to representativeness errors (for sites located in coastal regions and regions of complex topography), gaps and inhomogeneities in the GPS series (due to equipment changes), or potential inhomogeneities in the reanalyses (due to changes in the observing system). Trends in IWV and surface temperature in ERA-Interim and MERRA-2 are shown to be consistent, with positive IWV trends generally correlated with surface warming, but MERRA-2 presents a more general global moistening trend compared to ERA-Interim. Inconsistent trends are found between the two reanalyses over Antarctica and most of the Southern Hemisphere, and over central and northern Africa. The uncertainty in current reanalyses remains quite high in these regions, where few in situ observations are available, and the spread between models is generally important. Inter-annual and decadal variations in IWV are also shown to be strongly linked with variations in the atmospheric circulation, especially in arid regions, such as northern Africa and Western Australia, which add uncertainty in the trend estimates, especially over the shorter period. In these regions, the Clausius–Clapeyron scaling ratio is found not to be a good humidity proxy for inter-annual variability and decadal trends. [Termes IGN] teneur verticale totale en électronsRésumé : (Auteur) Precise Point Positioning (PPP) is an absolute positioning technology mainly used in post data processing. With the continuously increasing demand for real-time high-precision applications in positioning, timing, retrieval of atmospheric parameters, etc., Real-Time PPP (RTPPP) and its applications have drawn more and more research attention in recent years. This study focuses on the models, algorithms and ionospheric applications of RTPPP on the basis of raw observations, in which high-precision slant ionospheric delays are estimated among others in real time. For this purpose, a robust processing strategy for multi-station RTPPP with raw observations has been proposed and realized, in which real-time data streams and State-Space-Representative (SSR) satellite orbit and clock corrections are used. With the RTPPP-derived slant ionospheric delays from a regional network, a real-time regional ionospheric Vertical Total Electron Content (VTEC) modeling method is proposed based on Adjusted Spherical Harmonic Functions and a Moving-Window Filter. SSR satellite orbit and clock corrections from different IGS analysis centers are evaluated. Ten globally distributed real-time stations are used to evaluate the positioning performances of the proposed RTPPP algorithms in both static and kinematic modes. RMS values of positioning errors in static/kinematic mode are 5.2/15.5, 4.7/17.4 and 12.8/46.6 mm, for north, east and up components, respectively. Real-time slant ionospheric delays from RTPPP are compared with those from the traditional Carrier-to-Code Leveling (CCL) method, in terms of function model, formal precision and between-receiver differences of short baseline. Results show that slant ionospheric delays from RTPPP are more precise and have a much better convergence performance than those from the CCL method in real-time processing. 30 real-time stations from the Asia-Pacific Reference Frame network are used to model the ionospheric VTECs over Australia in real time, with slant ionospheric delays from both RTPPP and CCL methods for comparison. RMS of the VTEC differences between RTPPP/CCL method and CODE final products is 0.91/1.09 TECU, and RMS of the VTEC differences between RTPPP and CCL methods is 0.67 TECU. Slant Total Electron Contents retrieved from different VTEC models are also validated with epoch-differenced Geometry-Free combinations of dual-frequency phase observations, and mean RMS values are 2.14, 2.33 and 2.07 TECU for RTPPP method, CCL method and CODE final products, respectively. This shows the superiority of RTPPP-derived slant ionospheric delays in real-time ionospheric VTEC modeling.
