This paper was carried out to analyze the role of GIS in utilizing destination identification as a way to help accomplish a sustainable landscape. The work focused on enhancing work availability considering the transport network. Areas with a higher offer of zero-vehicle lodging units have a better employment availability by travel. Furthermore, areas with a higher offer of single-parent families are at a disadvantage in general occupation openness. In this paper, GIS-based employment availabilities by walking, transit, and automobile were processed for the metropolitan territory. The same was done for work availability among neighboring square gatherings, while regulating built-environment and socio-economic variables. Understanding public travel openness is imperative for encouraging mode movements to reduce auto dependence and is fundamental for the prosperity of non-car households. Also, it is important to know the distribution of facilities such as schools, universities, malls, and other socio-economic places, which helps in rearranging these places in a better way to have effective transit and to reduce road traffic. The accessibility analysis is done through three steps: identifying the spatial distribution in the area, creating buffers around each alternative, and calculating the total number of population and services served by the network. The overall results of this study show that the proposed network will cover more than 50% of school places and workplaces in the area. It will also serve about 840,000 inhabitants, which is 34% of the total population. The previous results make the network accessible to a large number of the area’s residents and will connect them with the main attraction points in the city. [Termes IGN] zone tropicale humideRésumé : (auteur) Geospatial techniques and Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) play a crucial role in the planning and management of land and water resources. GIS-based MCDA technique "Catastrophe theory" has been recently proposed for evaluating groundwater potential. However, the major limitation of "Catastrophe theory" is that only quantitative factors/thematic layers can be used for assessing groundwater potential, though qualitative factors are equally important. To overcome this inherent limitation, a novel GIS-based MCDA approach named "Hybrid Catastrophe" technique is proposed in this study. The "Hybrid Catastrophe" technique integrates the original "Catastrophe theory" with the "Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP)" to take into account both qualitative and quantitative thematic layers for assessing groundwater potential, thereby improving the reliability and versatility of the original Catastrophe technique. The applicability of "Hybrid Catastrophe" technique is demonstrated through a case study wherein 8 influential thematic layers (both quantitative and qualitative) were considered for assessing groundwater potential. The four quantitative layers were assigned weights based on the "Catastrophe theory" and the remaining four qualitative layers were assigned weights based on the "AHP theory". These thematic layers were integrated in GIS to delineate groundwater potential zones. The "Hybrid Catastrophe" technique yields four groundwater potential zones in the study area: (i) "very good" (covering 16% of the study area), (ii) "good" (54%), (iii) "moderate" (29%) and (iv) "poor" (1%) and its accuracy was found to be 77% that is reasonably high. The proposed "Hybrid Catastrophe" technique is versatile and it can be successfully applied to other parts of the world for evaluating groundwater potential at diverse spatial scales irrespective of agro-climatic, hydrologic and hydrogeologic conditions. The present research employed an integration of the Geographic information system (GIS) and Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method for identifying the flood susceptibility zonation (FSZ), flood vulnerability zonation (FVZ), and flood risk zonation (FRZ) of the humid subtropical Uttar Dinajpur district in India. The study combined a large number of thematic layers (N = 12 for FSZ and N = 9 for FVZ) to achieve reliable accuracy and included the multicollinearity analysis of these variables to overcome the issues related to highly correlated variables. According to the findings, 27.04, 15.62, and 4.59% of the area were classified as medium, high, and very high FRZ, respectively. The ROC-AUC, MAE, MSE, and RMSE of the model exhibited a good prediction accuracy of 0.73, 0.15, 0.16, and 0.21, respectively. The performance of the AHP model has been evaluated using sensitivity analyses. It also highly recommends that persistent improvement in this subject, such as sensitivity studies on modifying criteria thresholds, changing the relative significance of criteria, and changing the desired matrix, will permit GIS and MCDA to be progressively adapted to real hazard-management issues. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (auteur) Landslides often cause significant casualties and economic losses, and therefore landslide susceptibility mapping (LSM) has become increasingly urgent and important. The potential of deep learning (DL) like convolutional neural networks (CNN) based on landslide causative factors has not been fully explored yet. The main target of this study is the investigation of a GIS-based LSM in Zanjan, Iran and to explore the most important causative factor of landslides in the case study area. Different machine learning (ML) methods have been employed and compared to select the best results in the case study area. The CNN is compared with four ML algorithms, including random forest (RF), artificial neural network (ANN), support vector machine (SVM), and logistic regression (LR). To do so, sixteen landslide causative factors have been extracted and their related spatial layers have been prepared. Then, the algorithms were trained with related landslide and non-landslide points. The results illustrate that the five ML algorithms performed suitably (precision = 82.43–85.6%, AUC = 0.934–0.967). The RF algorithm achieves the best result, while the CNN, SVM, the ANN, and the LR have the best results after RF, respectively, in this case study. Moreover, variable importance analysis results indicate that slope and topographic curvature contribute more to the prediction. The results would be beneficial to planning strategies for landslide risk management.
